Just got through reading the 04 manual. It states for heavy operation, like towing heavy loads or trailer towing an Auxillary Trans Fluid Cooler "should" be used, along with a heavy duty cooling system and engine/axle ratio combination needed for heavy loads.

Having hit 280F for a minute or two towing at very low speeds I have been toying with the idea of an aftermarket cooler to supplement the stock one. Of course, at normal road speeds I rarely hit the infamous 260F mark.

I thought I ordered all the options available for towing. Curious Dodge doesn't offer this since they could certainly sell them and save some warranty claims from folks like me towing legal wt.

Any recommendations for a good aftermarket cooler, that won't void my warranty?

Thanx,

Being yours is a 3rd Gen a more slick way IMO would be to manually control the big Vistronic Fan DC started using. It will pull way more air over your factory cooler than any aftermarket... just take a look at its girth! Man when that baby engages some serious suction is going on.

I did mine, PM me if you want details.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

Matt- My X-Monitor uses the digital signal from the OEM wiring coming off the top of the trany. I think the OEM probe is at the outlet end of the oil path before dumping into the pan. Considering some of the fast temp fluctuations Ive seen when hot, this seems to be accurate. But don't take my word for it *L* Interested in your fan override idea. Check your PMs.

Caveman - The Mag-Hytec double deep pan looked like a good idea to me until I read that DC will void the transmission warranty due to the 1" extensions they provide to drop the pickup/filter screen deeper into the pan. Maybe an option after my warranty is up.

**ICEMAN** - Nice installation. Would you consider a parallel installation now over the std series install? Just curious. If Im going to go through the trouble may as well get the most cooling possible.

An aftermarket cooler still seems like the only safe way to get the job done without any warranty issues. Hey! Maybe I can get a DC dealer to install one for me :)

Still interested in any other experiences people have had.

Regards,

Joe

I have a elect. fan/thrmo control, aux. fan & cooler on mine, I also tow a 28 foot 5th wheel at 12000lbs. It helped alot, I got it at Speedway in Lake Haveasue NV. It comes with all the nessary parts and was a snap to install.

Hi Joe, The OEM thermistor is at the right front well away from the cool fluid return. You have PM.
