I have an auxilliary tank and 12V pump from pentagon tools and can't get it to prime. I had this same problem the first time I used it and removed the cover from the right side of the motor and ran it for a second, then replaced the cover and it worked great. I used it a few times since but now it just won't pump fuel. It will occasionally spit a tiny amount. It will build air pressure in the line but it won't pump fuel! I have tried taking the nozzle off like the Tuthill website suggests, but still nothing.

Got any ideas? I am going nuts with this thing

Unfortunately I cannot check the tube at this time. I have 70+ gallons in the tank and it is wedged in the front of my bed pretty good and I'm afraid to try and lift that much weight on my this sheet metal. I am looking for a siphon to fill a 55 gallon drum I have but until then I'm stuck.
(The tank bung holes are too close to the cab to turn the spin the pump and take it out)

hAVE YOU CHECKED THE the check ball to make sure it is in place, also you might want to pull the pump and see if your pickup tube has a leak, or hole in it , letting it suck air, brother was having same problem with his,he replaced the gasket and it started working

Which gasket? I don't know where the check ball would be either......
Do you have a tuthill pump?, if so is it the red one or the chrome one?, The red one has a cover on the side where the spring and check ball are located, also the gasket there for the cove can leak, Monte

It is not a tuthill but I think it's the design. (Red one) I have tried the spring and check ball and inspected all gaskets and everything looks good....
At this point I can't even get fuel to siphon out of this dang tank! What a deal.......
Think twice about securing an aux tank to your bed........it sure seemed like a good idea at the time!

Is it wired permanent or do you hook up wire clamps to the battery? If you clamp to the battery they must be red to red and black to black or the pump will run backwards.

Nick

You probably want to check the pick-up tube, i had a pvc one and it developed a crack up toward the top and sucked air and wouldn't pump fuel, now i have an auxilliary tank with a Holly blue pump, works great for an electric pump, small enough to hide out of site, i have it hooked up to a switch on my shifter and it's plumbed into my main tank, has extra filtration before it gets to my main tank too, Monte

I was able to get the tank out with destroying anything I'll pull the pump off later today hopefully and check the tube. I have the battery leads hooked up correctly. It will push air and I can feel it. It even builds pressure that I can hear...it just air pressure and no fuel.
