Replacement Hoses

Exhaust brake

The EGT probe for my Westach EGT meter gave out on me just prior to our move up here to eastern Oregon - I had over 2 years and 30,000 miles on it - much of it towing and up in mountainous terrain that saw a fair number of 1000+ degrees temps...

I wonder what mileage other members get outta their temp probes before a replacement is needed?

Thats a good question Gary, & I would like to know also. I only have 25,000 on my Banks egt probe & lately it's been doing wierd things. It would be reading 1200* while pulling a grade with my 5vr then all of a sudden the needle would bounce back & fourth between 400* & 1200*. I havn't had any egt problems since i upgraded my turbo. Thought maybe it was the Banks automind box because it's tied into the egt gauge.

deleted my question, I found the answer.

I did want to ask which diameter threading you used? I used the 1/4"... on accident really I forgot to specify and that's what came. Think there'd be a difference in life of the two?

Mine is a 1/8 inch probe - acted the same as mentioned above, started getting erratic, then quit entirely... Replacement from Geno's is about $38 delivered...

My first one was on for 9 years and over 145,000 miles before I sold the truck. It was still working at that time.

Westach EGT probe

Gary,

My guage has been in for almost 5 years and 160K miles. The thermocouple has never been out, but I guess it's still there because it's still working. Now, if I could get the guage needle to stop sticking on the low end of the range... But a tap on the guage or a pothole will shake it up to the real temperature. BTW, it's post-turbo.

I've worked on some Subaru WRX's that have smoked the factory probes. They actualy trip a "EGT too high" P-Code.

factory pyrometers??? nice... gassers run hotter though. they can hit 2k°f egt at times

I would like to know how high mine go's on a pull it has no problem pegging the neddle at 1800 but it still works fine.

 WOW that's hot!!! Becareful, you might be getting a new turbo soon... or perhaps even a piston set and headgasket!

lol, acutally it's fine the truck is built well and some stuff going on inside I dont even know about, the words from dave mitchell "you wont hurt that engine" running at high way speeds it stays a nice 650-700 degrees

I've heard "stories" of the probe breaking off and if its pre turbo, well time for a turbo upgrade. Any truth to those stories?

I've had mine installed for over four years and close to 50K without any problems. I don't think you'll find many failures. By the way... Years ago, when I was trying to decided the "pre/post" turbo issue I asked the forum for anyone who had had first hand experience with a failure that took out the turbo... Not "I know someone. . " or "I heard of one... " I didn't get any responses with a failure. If there has been one since... I haven't heard about it... . ;)

Pyro probe

I have the Isspro EV type I changed the pyro probe and was suprisized how much higher the temps were reading. I belive the probe was about 3 years old.

WELL, the Westach replacement probe is sitting here on the desk - will be interesting to see if readings differ any from the original probe in known situations...
