Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Average life of stock injectors?

After reading a post about a burned piston from a cratered injector, I wonder just how long I should keep pushing the ones in mine. I'm at 184 k miles. Whats the average life of an injector?Will you notice an injector going bad before it melts a piston?EGTs?Smoke?Temp?Loss of power?Or is the game over before you know it? I've been thinking of 215s for awhile and this might be a good reason for one more bomb.

Pumperdude, get the 215's you deserve it, I don't know about life but I can tell you that if you loose a injector and run without it than you are jeprodizing a piston because the fuel is also a lubricant... ... ... ... ... . Kevin

Most of my tractors call for injector test and calibration every 5000 hrs, roughly equivalent to 250k miles. The tech always asked if I was having a problem, I said no, he replied I'm wasting time and money unless there was a power loss or excessive smoke. For $6 each I figure it's cheap insurance. Some of my tractor injectors have an equivalent of way over a million miles on injectors that have just been checked, nothing wrong. One engine is almost ready for it's second rebuild with the original injectors. Excessive smoke on startup is a good indication trouble is coming.

I suppose they'd last pretty long as long as you dont get a load of bad fuel or something like that.

IMO, I'd go to the 370's if you did decide to do them.

Which post talked about a cratered piston from a bad injector? Are you sure you're not referring to the damage from a plugged piston cooling oil nozzel?

Mine have 92K on them and I was getting worried about them so I ordered some 370's

Blake: The name of the post was Melted Piston. The stock injector gave out with 56k on the clock. Kinda scary. Wouldn't want that on a road trip..... Or anytime for that matter.

Of all the diesels I have had I have never heard of this happening. Must be a very rare occurance.
