I've been tracking fuel, mileage, and all sorts of things since day one on my 04. 5. One thing I always do is pull my hours run from the speedo when I fill up. I've just crossed 37K and from the time I left the dealer's lot I've averaged 40. 3 MPH. (Total miles driven divided by hours from the meter. ) It might be interesting to see what others have and if there is a correlation between average speed and fuel mileage. My average fuel mileage from day one, including about 5K of trailer pulling, is 15. 5. Unloaded mileage is running 18. 5

Turn the key to the on position, but do not start the truck. Put the odometer/trip meter in the odometer mode. Now, press and HOLD the button until the display changes to hours. If you do this in the trip mode, it will simply reset the trip meter, that's why you need to be in the odometer mode.

Klenger,

Did you make that Excel spread sheet for all that info you posted above? Would you be willing to share it? I have the one that was floating around the TDR, but am interested in yours, it has more info.

I wanna do this... but... on my speed-o when I push the odo-trip button it always switches to trip... can't get it to stay in odo-miles to hold the button in to get hrs. . Apr 03 HO build date...

Not the same as what you guys are talkin about, but I'm really proud of this. I AVERAGED 69. 7 mph between Cleveland, Ohio and Hot Springs Arkansas last year... . Pulling my Jeep. Before all you goody goodies come down on me, I know I was endangering lives and all that... . but I was rollin!

170,984 miles/ 3752 hours = 45. 57 MPH avg. I do not run over 72-74MPH on the interstate. I am sure one of the western boys with the 75MPH speed limit should be able to break 50MPH average.

I do not let my truck idle very much. I have a cool down on my truck that cuts it off at 300 degrees after I shut the key off. I pull up to the pump, shut the key off and get out.

My mileage will vary between 17 on the interstate and 20 on 2 lane roads. Depending on where I fill up, station differences can make 1 to 1. 5MPG difference in the mileage. Also, the BFG 285 AT KO tires reduced mileage by 1 to 1. 5MPG.

Piece of cake.

1. With the key not in the ignition, set the odometer display to "odometer".

2. Place the key in the ignition and turn it to "RUN". At this point the dash should light up for the bulb test. DON'T START THE TRUCK!

3. With the key still on RUN, depress the trip reset button and hold it there for 6 seconds. Engine hourmeter appears.

so far 11,200 miles and 842 hrs just a hair under 40mph and i idle more than i should ecpecialy when its stupid hot. And to add to this i have now had the truck just over 2 months and its normaly parked during the weekend and during the errk if i'm not on the road yet i still have spent an average of 4. 5 hrs a day. and people wondered why i wanted nice leather seats and other goodies in my "work" truck.

I didn't know you could check the hours, but after reading this thread, I went outside last night to check it. I had 1427 hours and 49,940 miles for an average of 34. 996 miles per hour. It's interesting to see everyone's results!
