Just curious as to what everyones stock timing is? I know all 94' 175 pumps came with 12. 5 which is what mine is, but just curious as to how that stacks up to other stock pumps. I heard of a 215 pump that was 11. 5, is that common to have it that low or not?

Looks like just about everyone sets it to 16, is this the general good daily driver setting? My goal right now is 350 RWHP with the current turbo I have and I think I'm close now probably in the 300-325 area. The stock clutch has yet to slip which really has me surprised, I do believe it's a pretty fresh clutch the truck has 248K on it so it had to have been replaced somewhere along the line. So I think with 181 DV's and 16* timing I can hit 350 RWHP, after I get those 2 mods done and if my clutch isn't slipping yet it's off to the dyno.

Anybody run more than 16 on a daily driver? Is it not advised?

A little off topic, but I have a question for you Rams-n-Hogs- I noticed you had a hybrid turbo with 16 cm housing, how is this working for you? I thought about doing that since I already have the 16, but I figured boost would be too high with the larger compressor. Right now I'm at 36 PSI up steep hills in fifth, on a flat maybe 34. Which hybrid do you have?

16 is the highest you want to run it on the stock HG. 15. 5 would be safer.

My '96 was set at 13. 3 before I reset it, and one automatic truck I helped with was like 11. 75.

Hmm, so since I have 248K miles on this truck to you think it would be even safer to run 15. 5? Or does mileage not really matter? Thanks

The hybrid works very well for me. It has spool-up like a stock turbo, and I can keep EGT's in check with it. I can't really tell you what max boost is on it, as every time I hammer it, (which isn't too often), I'm keeping my eyes on the road. I was playing with it the other day after I changed injectors, and it went from a couple of lbs of boost to 30-32, instantly, and stayed there till I let off. I also run a valet switch when I'm towing, to control EGT's even more. I'm also not running the starwheel or the plate full forward to help keep things in check. Just a matter of tuning. With this turbo, it will still see 1500* on the dyno. For your setup, this would probably be a good option. For me, it's time to upgrade. :D

CPL plate vs. reality: sometimes not identical. Mine was supposed to be 12. 5* stock, and at some point it probably was. When I went to advance the timing, it actually measured 10. 5* - slipped. Advanced timing to 15. 5*, and made sure that the tapered shaft and timing gear "hole" are VERY clean before re-installation and tightening. Timing slips happen more frequently than you think.

My 94 (auto)was at 10. 5 ish wen I set mine. I don't know if it slipped but it had no high end from day one so I think it came from the factory that way.
