Aluminized or stainless 4 inch exhaust?

Hey guys, I noticed the banner for FleetFilter.com the other day on this site and thought I would check it out. They sell Wix filters (same as Napa Gold) at incredibly low prices.

Wix filters are some of the best, if not the best, filters made and are just as good at the Fleetguard Stratapore as far as I'm concerned.

An oil filter for the 2nd Gen trucks is only $3. 78! There's no minimum to buy either! A fuel filter for my little Isuzu pickup was around $11 compared to the $23 I paid here in town.

Anyway, I'm gonna start doing some business with them, and I thought I would point them out here in the forums.

I tried 2 times to order online and both times there was a bug with the checkout process, my shopping cart would empty itself when I tried to checkout. Email from them after the second time I tried to order questioned the software I was using. Funny I order lots of stuff off the Internet monthly with no problems

I was a software QA engineer for 4 years and a software QA manager for 2 years. I know a software bug when I see one :D

Too bad cause they do have good prices. Hopefully they have fixed the bug instead of pointing fingers at their customers. They gotta remember the rules -

1) Customer is always right

2) If the customer is wrong, check rule #1

I just called them yesterday and placed an order. I had to get them to order a specific filter anyway.

I have noticed that their site doesn't display correctly when running Mozilla Firefox. But when I switch to Internet Explorer it is perfect.

Online store still broken...

I tried again to order online this morning. No go, still broken. I was able to put fuel filters into my shopping cart, but when I went back to put oil filters in, the fuel filters were gone.

I'm sorry and I probably shouldn't say anything but Wix filters are not the best. The reason you usually see alot of them used in truck fleets and heavy equip. fleets is they give jobber prices which are extremely cheap. I've worked at a CAT dealer for 22 years as a mechanic, technical comunicator, and a product support rep. . I've seen alot of filters cut open and alot of tests done by Caterpillar. In all the testing I've seen done; Caterplillar, Donaldson, and Fleetguard are usually neck and neck at the top and Wix/Napa and Baldwin are at the bottom. I don't want to go into alot about the testing but CAT tests fuel & oil filters on live engines running on a test stand where contaminants are introduced and they run a certain amount of hours with multiple passes through the filters and then the oil is sampled and the filters are cut open and they have to meet their requirements for oil cleanlyness, absolute micron size and carring capacity. The CAT filter guys told me Fleetguard makes a very good filter. I love my Dodge Cummins truck and I will keep using fleetguard filters in my Cummins engine. You get what you pay for and if it's real cheap it's usually not very good or it's stolen. I've got my fire suit on. Mike.

In all the testing I've seen, Wix ranks near the top. But I'm referring to testing done outside of Wix's labs. Cat says their filters are best - odd, huh? I would agree that Wix, Donaldson, and Fleetguard make the best, but since I'm sure you think my opinion to be biased, that's all I'll say. I couldn't sell a product that I didn't believe in; I've used Wix for many, many years.

Dane, I'm banging around the internet to see if I can find out what the issue is. We've had hundreds of orders, and no one yet has had a problem with the site. We aren't pointing fingers at customers, but when only one customer has a problem, we're inclined to isolate that problem on that customer's system. Makes sense doesn't it? You were an IT engineer; you should understand that.

Regardless, I'm trying to figure out why it happens to you. In theory, if it happens to you, it'll happen to others. I'll be sure to notify when/if I can do anything.

Here's an idea: Never go cheap on:

1. Underwear

2. Socks

3. Condoms

4. Oil, Air, & Fuel Filters

Even though I drive a Ford, I buy every filter I can from Fleetguard. These trucks just cost too dang much to trust a 'run-of-product' product. I believe the filters need to be changed regularly and good quality filters must be used.

I understand that Fleetguard probably has someone else making the filters for them... but I am comforted by the idea that Fleetguard sets the specs and watches the manufacturer. (And I don't trust Ford to do as good a job as Fleetguard!)

Wix may well make good filters, NOW... ... but their reputation, in my mind, is not good. So I will pay a good bit more for Fleetguard filters... maybe wasting money... but it's my money and I feel like I get value for it.

Choclate and Vanilla, I know. But good luck to you whatever you use.

Bschneider,

I'm not saying that we should use CAT filters on our trucks, they don't even make filters for our trucks as you probably know. But when I see the testing that I've been exposed to, I feel very good in the fact Fleetguard filters are the best available for my Dodge Cummins. If a person isn't concerned about high quality and wants to save a few dollars that's fine by me.

As to your comment "Cat says their filters are the best -odd, huh?" I guess you feel Caterpillar makes cheap second rate filters for their cheap second rate heavy equip. line, Give me a break. I've cut too many filters open and been involved with too many HEUI injector failures when customer's were told Wix's filters are just as good as CAT's high efficiency fuel filters. Answer me one question, why are Wix filters soo much cheaper than CAT filters? Unlike you I don't have to sell filters to make a living but I have to live with the problems caused by filters not meeting manufacturer's specs. Mike

Well I'm no industry expert but I will point out some common sense ideas here: He said that about CAT because there's no company in their right mind that's gonna say that someone makes a better filter than them - what sense would that make? Surely you understand that...

As far as Wix being cheaper than CAT filters, that's also pretty easy. I believe it would tie in to a little thing called mass production. CAT doesn't produce near the filters that Wix has to and obviously wouldn't be able to pay for their manufacturing overhead as quickly as a company like Wix can and still have the profit margin that a large company like Wix does. I don't want to get into an accounting lesson here but it doesn't get much simpler than that.

Also, how about refraining from bashing new members, particularly those that sponsor our site. Do you think that our $35 membership fees cover all of the TDR's expenses for the year? No, I can assure you that it doesn't. We want people like FleetFilter.com to stay around here, not try and insult them off just because some of us might be hard-headed or have different opinions.

Not sure about the testing or the results, but I do know the 8 or 9 dollar fleetgaurd is what is going to continue protecting my 600+ HP Cummins it's just plain cheap insurance! BTW I do know Fram has got to be Rock Bottom other then that I'm just not sure.

And Mike, I've talked about you with a few people but I still haven't met ya, look me up sometime. 678-4387

Jeff
