I'm trying to debug a light coming on after 20 seconds (the amber light). The service manual (great reference by the way) says that this indicates a high resistance value. Any comments on how to find where the resistance is high? Should I replace the sensor at the diff?

Yea I know what you mean, but mine will flash on and off do to wether or some other reason, however it does not stay on all the time,I would like to know if this is a normal trait on these trucks. I was told if it dosnt stay on and it clears up after turning your ignition on and off its ok.

Try cleaning the sensor connector plug at the diff. The salt and water seems to affect the system if it gets in there. Use a little dielectric grease to keep it dry.
My light didn't go out until I unhooked the battery for about 2 min. then it cleared and never came back.

SturgeonMike,
My '93 W250 had the same problem and appeared most often when I came to a stop. In my case, when I put on the brakes, the amber light would come on. The brake booster vacuum would be used to help stop the truck (normal ops) but once stopped, the vacuum at the brake booster was too low for normal operation, causing the amber light to come on. Let off the brake and accelerate, vacuum came up and light went out.
I finally was convinced to change the brake booster assembly when I came around a corner, encountered a stopped garbage truck right in front of me and to my surprise, had no brakes.
I don't know if this pertains to your problem, but it sure was scary narrowly missing the rear end of that truck.
Just thought I would pass it along, for what it's worth.

Installed a set of lights under the back bumper so that I can now see what is behind me when I back up at night. As part of the process I pulled part of the dash out and unplugged the message centre to install the switch next to the cargo light switch - looks like a factory job. However, when I was finished I noticed that the Brake & the Antilock Rear Wheel lights stayed on. Couldn't figure out what the problem was. So I decided to check the TDR forums and I found #ad
the answer in this post. Thanks to Lil Dog, followed his advice and disconnected the battery and waited a few minutes and voila #ad
the problem was gone.

I had exactly the same problem as Steve Marley. Would come off the freeway and start getting on the brakes to slow down and then when at the bottom of the ramp at a light, there wasn't much left and you had to reallly stand on them to get stopped. This was not a good situation!! You must watch the length of the adjusting rod between the booster and the master cylinder. If the rod is too long, the brakes won't release all the way. I ended up cooking the front rotors and had to be towed back home.
Well, I got too lengthy with that one but if the brakes feel funny, read the manual and try the 3 applications on the brakes to see what happens. Just may be caused from a leaking booster.
