Howdy all. .

I've recently have had a bad swing of luck w/ my 02 6spd. 4x4. I took the truck to the dealer to get the synchros r/r, and somehow ending up w/ a new transmission :--) The problem is... apparently there are none in the dealer network, or whatever orifice they pull these things out of :( Has anyone had any difficulty finding a new replacement nv5600? And if so, is this possibly due to the installation of the G56 in the 3rd gen trucks? The good thing about this whole ordeal is that it's covered under the warranty :-laf I really miss my truck! :(

I am very curious as to how everything turns out for you, ( hopefully good) as i am in the same year boat as you... there must be something they can do as you would think they wouldn't short their customers warranty... please, keep us informed... . #ad

I read somewhere that since the NV5600 isn't being installed in dodge anymore (or any truck for that matter), they have discontinued it... the only replacement parts are those sitting as NOS.

Just what I read somewhere. . so don't shoot the messenger!!!

Most likely it will be a varient of the G56.

I would bet that, not unlike the lift pumps, DC will "retrofit" the G56 into a NV5600-original truck if needed.

I heard the guys running the NV5600s (that also tend to break them) are buying up pieces very fast.

I haven't heard a lot of news on the G56. A Ford engineer said that it is a good box,9 maybe he was talking about the shipping container :D ) but yet guys on different threads here say they have plastic gears, and are generally junk. Is that a true statement, or just a biased opinion?

SBC took one apart... to summarize their findings:

No plastic gears.

Internals were beefy (they were impressed).

Bearing were showing wear at 70k (supposedly a very "used" transmission).

They didn't see any reason the dual mass clutch couldn't be replaced with a single mass clutch.

I was at Detroit Diesel's rebuild facility in Utah and they were setting up to start processing these trannys. I talked to the fellow who was doing the research and saw a couple of these trannys apart. They do look pretty beefy and the transmission guy there said he was pretty inpressed by them. They use a sliding bar type of shifting mechanism instead of a round rod, fork setup. Apparently there is a larger version of this thing called an 8500(maybe) used in bigger applications. He had one of those too. They are virtually identical except the 56 is just a little smaller. He said the bigger transmission was pretty bulletproof.

You can check these guys out and see maybe the dealer can work something throught them? http://www.drivetrain.com/
I think their options are pretty well limited...

Folks, I just wanted to update on my issue. I just posted on the 911 forum (maybe I should've waited) that the dealer wants to replace the Trans. I need to find some shops that have the NV5600, or experience o/h them. Some of you guys gave a couple of places, thanks. Are there any close to home? (Southwest Ohio) What about Jasper? Thanks again!

I thought auto companies had to stock replacement parts for 10 years after the model year?

yeah, vic, I thought so too. Still can get stuff fer yer Oldsmobile, but not yer truck! (Olds being now defunct)

I am up in Mansfield, OH. That is about 1 hour north of Columbus. Try this Dodge dealership: Weekley's Dodge 419-883-2461. Talk to lon or Jeff in parts and tell them Gabe sent you. They are the best and only dealership I will deal with. They will bend over backwards to people out.
