so maybe you have seen my thread on in general diesel topics titled axel swap. some buddies and i thought about the idea of putting 3rd gen axels under a 2nd gen truck. im wanting to hear from all of you what you think about the aam axels. any noteable problems that would make the swap unwanted. im trying to find things that would out weigh the benifits of much much better brakes no cad rear disc brakes. possiblity of better driveline angels. thinga like that. so tell me what do you all think.

I know at least two people that did this swap a long time ago (probably better than 5 years ago). The only "downside" I can remember is that they had to run 17" wheels. I also want to say they needed to have the drive shafts modified? But from what I remember, it was an almost bolt-in affair.

If you want bolt-in non-CAD and rear disc brakes, look for the axles from an 00/01 to 02... those were non-CAD and had rear discs.

thats what ive been thinking 17'' wheels dont bother me in fact any more its easier to get tires for 17s then 16s and you have a few more tire options it seems like. the drive shafts i know need to be "modified" but thats not a really big deal also the sway bar on the front might need to be changed around a little too and yes otherwise it would seem like a bolt in swap. id really like to hear from some of those that have done it and see how it works and how it went during install.

its not a waste of time im trying to get a feel for these axels and just seeing what people think of them. i appreciate the input
