Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Axle info

Does anyone know if there is a difference between axles from a gasser vs a CTD. Ive considered doing a conversion on my truck which is 2wd. I came across a really good deal on a parts truck that would give me the frame and axles. It is a 2500 with a 360 gas burner. Any help would be appreciated.

Dana 44 front Dana 60 rear, you have a 60 and 70 respectively. The rear is not a big issues if you don't thrash it but the 44's have a hard time with the weight on the Cummins. It will work but be a ball joint eater overall.

I guess I assumed it had a Dana 60 front and Dana 70 Rear.

IMO, it's more trouble than it is worth. You would be better off selling your truck and purchasing a CTD truck. I would understand if you was doing a conversion on a jeep, SUV, or something exotic. I think it would be too much trouble to do the conversion rather than purchase a truck already set up properly from the factory. Just my . 02. Good luck.

You need to determine if the 3/4 ton gasser is a light duty or heavy duty 4x4. Check your front axle GVW rating on the drivers door jamb. 8800lb is a heavy duty 3/4 and will have a Dana 60 front axle. The light duty trucks have a 7500 lb GVW and have a Dana 44 axle with 8 bolt hubs.
