After 16K plus miles of heavy towing the rear diff was "like new". The original oil looked like the new Valvoline Syntech oil. The front diff was dirty. An amber/silver combo with some "grit". The new oil was much lighter compared to what came out. So, I'm glad we didn't wait any longer on the diff lube, the front was pretty ugly. It looked worse than my 98 after 55K on the original axle oil.

Thanks for the heads up. I changed the rear diff but haven't changed the front yet because I haven't been in 4wd so far this year. I may take the time to see what's in there.

The front should be changed at the same time as the rear imho, since all the parts are turning all the time anyway.

I changed mine at 2035 miles. I will change them again at 15K miles.

I almost skipped the front after the rear turned out to be so clean. I guess axles are all a little different, my front had more silver stuff than all my past trucks. I expected the rear to have some metal after towing up to 14K since new. But, I did not have any thing but clean looking oil. The gears look good and they are still quiet.

So far, I'm happy with the AAM's. Love the rubber gaskets.

Oh yes! No gasket scraping, no stinky, expensive limited-slip additive and no friction based limited slip to wear out. Add that to the easy oil and fuel filter change out... ! :)
