okay that maybe what they call them, just couldn't think of nothing but axle nut at the time LOL... . sorry for the confusion. Yeah it hold the hub on the rear. .

Yep that one will do the trick. But you can get one cheaper at NAPA. I got one from Harbor Freight for $ 5. 00 on sale.

Yup, that's the one. SRadke... come on. . can you pick at any more details?? Axle nut, Hub lock nut, etc... many different terms for the same thing.

hmmm might have to check with harbor freight, Napa i checked with, they cannot get the 2 9/16 i checked yesterday, it runs from 2 1/2, 2 5/8 and then jumps to 3"... .

will check with HF and see what they got going on.

Thanks guys for your help. . Don't guess anyone would happen to know what torq on that nut is enough, like i said in my (hub Play) post, the nut wasn't tight enough so i turned it until the hub was tight and wasn't moving back and forth on the axle spindle, and i spun the hub after that and she spun freely with no resistance so i think im okay there.

There is suppose to be . 001 to . 010 end play on the Hub. Do Not pre-Load the bearings they will not last. The NAPA store I go to has a 2 9/16 hanging on the wall here in Oregon.

ata,

when you say pre-load could you explain that a little better, there are some things in this world i just can't figure out, not so sure about those bearings. . shop class was back in 92 LOL...

I think i found that ata, would that be the box spanner made by pittsburgh? thats the closest thing to even looking like what i borrowed today to turn that nut with.

Per the manual. .

While rotating the wheel, tighten nut to 120 - 140 ft -lb.

Back off the nut 120 degrees (1/3 turn).

This will provide . 001 - . 008 " end play.

Install keeper.

Hope this helps.

I used this proceedure 4 years ago and all is well.

well i didn't exactly use that method other than the spinning of the hub while turning the nut, so i could be in the ball park or way out in left field with my method, the weather turning nasty yesterday didn't help and i did not want to have parts all over the place on such short notice... . I do know the hub spun freely without any problems and was not loose anymore... Thanks for the manual instructions JL, priceless info, im hoping to get it checked next week at another place where my friend takes his 91, says the guy is a dodge man so i think he is my best bet.

Thanks

I just tighten mine so it spins freely and there is very little freeplace. It kinda takes a "feel" for it. I did it like the manual said and they were WAY too loose. Had a good 1/8" of freeplay (0. 125)

The one I got from Harbor Freight was 2 9/16 on one end and 2 3/4 on the other and you put a bar through the middle to turn it. You can get a hole set of the Wheel Bearing Locknut Sockets for $40. 00 Item 40178-0BXA. End Play on the Hub, You should feel movement (vary slight) in and out on the Hub when pushing and then pulling on the Hub. What I do is run the nut up tight and then back it off about a 1/16 of a turn, try moving it and then another 1/16 of turn until you feel a slight movement.

Thanks ata, i will have to recheck it this coming week, right now snowy with 50+mph winds so no good today, i don't plan on going anywhere but have another set of wheels if i need to.

Yeah thats the same one i found i thought it might be the one you had gotten, just wasn't sure. . Oh lordy i think i have a new bug, man talk about deals that HF has :)

Some of the Harbor Frieght tools are ok, but alot of the stuff I've come across is pure junk. Where you waste time trying to work with a tool that is only 1/2 way working.

Got one

I had the local OReilly's to order one, they could not find the cheaper socket for like 12 bucks but they were showing one made by KD tools, the exact same one i borrowed from the garage... $29 with tax, and made in the USA. .

Well all i need to do now is wait for it to warm up, recheck that axle nut and go from there, it will put my mind to ease that is...
