Replacing the drivers side axle seal on the front of a '96 4x4.

Is there enough room to slide the intermediate shaft outboard far enough to get the carrier out of the housing without having to pull the passenger side outer shaft (which requires removal of the wheel/brakes etc)? And does anyone know the torque spec for the bearing caps?

if you haven't pulled everything apart yet, put in 1-2 pints of brake fluid in first and give it three weeks. It will usually seal itself back up again, and save you a bunch of work.

For future reference, you gotta pull the passenger side outer shaft out in order to move the intermediate shaft far enough to get the carrier out.

Still don't know the torque spec. on the bearing caps.
