i have a 91 ctd 250 4x4 with a automatic without the overdrive last yr i over steered n ran into a 2 foot retrainin wall :( n busted the out side shell of the front axle into 2, it has a rare 307 dana 60 front n i was wondering if a dana 60 3. 55 would work if i changed da front n rear axle

if you change both axles, it will work, your speeedo will read wrong, adn you will loose alot of top speed, like you could maybey go 70.

might be alot eiseier to get the new fron adn switch the ring and pinion into it. It's not a big job, just takes paicence. or have a driveline shop do it for you.

Find a donor rig with 3. 55's and overdrive transmission and you'll be in luck. With 2500rpm 1:1 trans, 3. 55 gears = SLOW. Anyone care to calculate the speed? Randys ring and pinion has a gear/speed calculator. But yes if you change the front and rear axles, it will work. Maybe top out bout 55? With 3. 07's top end is around 70-85 depending on high idle screw setting.

Kent theres no swapping ring and pinions into the 3. 07 which is actually a Dana 61 and 71. Totally different housing.

The 3. 07 gears only work in a D61 case right? Won't work in a regular D60 if I remember correctly.

Where is the front axle busted exactly? Is the housing intact? If it is you could retube the damaged side.

3.07

I expect that you can find an empty housing for the 3. 07. The thing that is really hard to find is the gear set.

You would also be surprised to see what can be repaired by a specialty axle shop. There is a company that repaired a bus axle for us. Re tubed the driver side, on the bus. I don't have the name or number but I can get it. They were out of Atlanta.

To say the least, don't just pitch the old parts. Some really poor soul trying to keep a beater on the road might need something that you think is useless. I am personally aquainted with a couple of these really poor souls and their beater trucks.

Amen brother. Same here.

Slow

When I got my truck I had no OD and 3. 55's. Top Speed ~ 65 MPH and I needed earplugs! :)

OD is nice! I'd keep the 3. 07's too though, no OD wiring to do.
