I am trying to find a straight answer as to the front axle weight rating on my truck. The Pdf I down loaded on the 2002s says the front axle is rated at 4850lbs. Dave Fritz's site says it is 5200.

The reason I am looking is a weighed my truck/trailer combo today at a DOT scale.

just truck: plus 550lbs of people

Steering: 5120**

drive: 3260

With trailer:

steering axle: 4760

Drive Axle: 4160

Trailer Axles: 6040

Any info would help,

Thanks

Ted

My 02 truck doesn't have the axle disconnect. The rating on the front axle is now 5200 lbs. The sticker on the door post will tell the weight rating of your axles. Jeff Oo. Oo. Oo.

Thanks guys I actually know that my door jam states my axle at 5200 I had just forgotten about that. I find it weird that the info from DC for the 2002s shows a 4850 axle rating on 2500/3500 truck across the board. I am also a little conserned about how close my truck it to GVWR with just two people and I think I might have had the dogs in the back but can not be sure.

Don't believe anything.....

Don't believe anything stuck on your truck until you get a build sheet from the dealer. They will run it for you for no $$$, takes about 5 minutes and will give you everything you need to know as to what was built into your truck. These should be required before you are allowed to join theTDR - only kidding. I just found out about these a few months ago. What a wealth of data.

Read your own signature. After market bumper, Warm Wrench, Etc etc. These items are all out front of the front axle. You most likely upped the front axle 400-500 lbs, and lowered the rear a 100 lbs. SNOKING

Actually snowking the DOR bumper is 138 lbs and the m-12000 is 138 as well for a grand total of 276 lbs minus the original front bumper and brackets and trim. The additional weight is not that much. Yes it is out in front of the axle and thus exerts more force on the axle but still Sitting empty with a front weight of 5120 and a gvw of 8380 does not leave a lot of room before hitting the GVWR. Given this was with 550 lbs of people and 170 lbs of dogs but still

I think this 2002 front axle set up should be a new thread. I would be interested as to how and if they changed the disconnect design. Time to let my poorly thought out thread die a graceful death;)
