So, I got a new front driveline for my truck recently. Haven't had time to install it yet as I have to change out the yoke on the differential to the 1410 that I ordered with the new driveshaft. Got the driveshaft from High Angle Driveline(great place and service I might add) and just had a question about installing the new yoke.

First, does anyone know what the torque is for the retaining nut that holds the yoke to the end of the pinion shaft? My service manual gives quite a few different torque specs and I am not sure which one.

Second, is there a crush washer behind the yoke that needs to have the proper amount of torque for pre-load on the pinion bearings at all?

All the yokes I have replaced on 1 ton axles, I have not seen any necessary pre-load on the bearings by the torque from the yoke nut or any crush washers. Jesse @ High Angle DL didn't give me any torque specs or tell me to be cautious of the proper amount of torque for pre-load, so I assume it is just a quick swap from the stock 1350 yoke to my new 1410.

Here is a pic of the new shaft and yoke. The shaft on the right is my old one from Arizona Drivelines which is a complete POS and has failed on me hence the reason I went to a reputable driveline suppiler like HAD.

Thanks in advance for the specs and info. :)

Thanks Justin,

No I don't have a fax machine, but I also have a '98 service manual, but it gave similar specs, so I guess I could just split the difference and go with about 250ft/lbs and call it good. I just hate it when the manual gives such a huge window of torque like that, I mean there is a huge difference between 215 and 280. What year manual is that one that you got the spec from anyway?
