What are you guys running for axles that are sled pulling. When we put the detriot locker in I replaced my stockers with yukon. I think I had 4-5 hooks when the first one let go and know I pulled the second one out and after 4 hooks and about 750 miles the splines are twisted pretty bad. For some reason both have been on drivers side.

The Yukons are cheap. My Mosers twisted, now I'm running Mark Williams. Hailsey sells some and so does SCS.

How much for a set of mark williams? what material are they made out of?

We still run the stockers, haven't seen the need for the overpriced stuff yet. Maybe for the front though.

Chromoly 4304 35 spline axles cost around $180- $190 a piece and the 35 spline side gear kit was around $225. Got mine locally and have launched and pulled many times - just took them out and they look brand new.

I twisted my set in 3 hooks with no hopping. They gave me a full credit.



I ran stock axles for the rest of the year after Scheids, but I'm worried about how they are going to look when I pull them out.

You mean 4340 right? Your just running on borrowed time with the 70. The ring and pinion are the problems.

I don't want the extra weight of an 80. The pinion is really the problem - always breaks where it tapers down. Got my numbers backwards - you know how that is.

munbers bakcwards, how could you do that. Are the axles one piece? two piece? That price seems super cheap, unless they are a set like the yukons, then that seems pretty much in line. For drag racing I can see why you would stay with a 70. I just have seen too many of them not survive on the pulling track.

I am not sure the material on the SCS, but the the Haisleys are stronger than a 4340 axle. They are a very nice axle. Alot of money yes, but I wanted to buy one set and be done with it. Drag racing is hard on trannies. Sledpulling is hard on everything past the transfercase. You must just be luckier than most, I don't know how much you hook, but to be running the 70 and it survive is an amazing feat. You wouldn't believe some of the carnage I have seen on the pulling track.

I took a look at the Haisley's when we were at Scheid's, they look pretty good.

Destroyed stockers: (2 good, 2 bad) the good ones were from my 70.

Broke them after a NASTY hop.

For the highest strength, I would probably try Mark Williams axles. Over three decades ago, he introduced molten salt aus-tempering to the aftermarket axle world. This superior heat treatment helps as well as the high grade of alloy steel. He also makes axles to the specific length needed, rather than using over-length splines and cutting off the axles as needed. The best strength occurs if the splines are just as long as needed, and the shaft diameter is reduced to the spline root diameter immediately.

I was pretty impressed with the Hasiley axles when I opened the box not sure who makes them for them though.

Jack @ CTM has the best customer service ever. My main sport is rock crawling. I have 550+ HP from from 434 SBC with a NV4500 and Atlas 5. 0 and 5:13 gears my front 42" tires are water filled and have snapped and twisted too many axles. his 300m axles are top quality... . get your rear spiders broached to 37 spline and your problems are done... . BTW Yukon stuff is too sporadic with their quality the founderies in India leave too much to be desired... . Alloy USA is anoher great supplier of axles
