On an '02 the speed comes from the ABS sensor on the rear pumpkin. If the '95 had ABS then it should be OK. An '02 will have real wheel or all wheel ABS so that's an issue too. The ABS has a Hall effect sensor on the case and a tone ring (a ring with teeth) on the carrier.

I did the opposite swap you're talking about, got a whole axel from a 95 for my 99. Been about 10 years, but I do remember having to cut sway bar brackets and possibly shock mounts off my 99 one and weld onto the the 95. Other than that it "bolted" up. Oh, since my 99 had RWAB I had to take the tone ring out and put in the 95. Pretty sure the 95 housing had the hole for the (can't think right now) thing that sends signal to system. I wasn't too bad just had to be real specific with placement of brackets being welded on. Tip: if you have to cut off brackets to use on the new (to be installed) housing cut slightly into the old housing to remove brackets (so they don't end up being short) and cut off flush on the new diff.

Going from disc to drum also may be different line pressures? I know when I did that on my Chevelle, I had to swap the MC and the proportioning valve (front drum to disc) not sure if that applies here but something to consider.

Good point. Forgot to mention my 99 has RWAL only. I didn't change M-cyl or proportioning valve. Guess I got lucky? Stops much better than the old drum setup.
