Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) B-1 turbo appears smoked

smoked as in shaft play to the tune of . 015 in and out and . 024 up and down which may be ok (up-down) and alot of oil in the intake housing. this wa one of the older ones ken did (2-3 years ago) and have not drove the truck much in that tme about 40K.

I'll see Ken Mon. since i'll be working 1/2 mile away man in hope he say it's fine

if not anybody got an extra exhaut housing adapter for a hx-35 to exhaust. the bolt on deal they will sell or loan if ken needs to fix my turbo

It sounds like its toast to me.

Either a rebuild or a new center should get it.

li'll let Ken Diaz make the decision on Mon. he built it so i'll let him fix it(sorry if that came out rude no disresect meant)

You would be superprised how much play is acceptable in a charger and it still be good. Does it scrape the housings aa you rotate it? If you figure your running 60PSI of oil pressure and less than 60 PSI boost, then oil can get by the seals. The up down doesn't bother me as much as the in and out. These are bushin chargers which require an oil film to allow them to spin freely. Let Ken make the call and keep us up to date.

A good modified charger that sees high boost usually has a lifespan of about 40k miles or less depending on how hard you were on it.

Then its time for a rebuild. I can tell you that if anything your charger could benefit from a rebuild.

Soooo, why was the oil in the intake?

I know some oil is ok

and i asked him about the oil too and said it's fine psi differences ect(oil psi vs. Boost psi. or something like that)

he said most turbos have more oil then i have

I'll go with what he said since he saved me (and cost himself) a rebuild

I would still have it rebuilt even if not by him cause once it goes bad its usually BAD... .

my wifes b1-2 turbo had alot of play when i got it

, but it had other issues so it went to htt turbo for those issues thay gave it the once over



when it came back , it had about the same amount of play even with new fins ect , it seemed like alot to me but both htt and piers & ken said not to worry it has been working great for 15k now its a better turbo now

Glad to hear my b-1 isn't the only one

at high egts (1450) which ken said is ok for short periods, i bet it has no play
