problem solved, but a caution to every one

transformer oil!!

Scott, you sure about that? I've run most of the major brands of excavators and the JD is the only one that has the controls reversed, always thought that made them unique. It could be that Hitachi installs the controls backwards per JD's request though.

illflem, yes it is true that Hitachi makes
JD they have for alot of years the older
nember machines (690,790,etc. ) Hitachi only
built the booms everythig else was JD.
But with the new numbering (200,450,etc. )
My salesman say the only thing that is JD is the engine.
I do know that when we need to rent a trackhoe when things get busy all of the dealers are willing to put any control patern we would like to run they say it is a 20 min. to 2 hr. change depending on the model of machine.
I own two JD 690 and a 410 both set up with cat controls.

JCB fasttracks ( a farm tractor that goes 45 mph ) uses the 5. 9 it comes from England. Hesston swathers (hay cutters), 4 0r 5 of the Case IH farm tractors, Many of the farm spray rigs use the 5. 9. I rode a ferry over the Columbia river with 4 5. 9s on board. Many of the gensets at airports used to start aircraft are 5. 9s. Navistar can say that they produce a lot of 444s but the aplication for them is light truck ONLY. I have seen farm tractors with the 5. 9 run over 200 hp under some of the most horrible conditions for well over 6000 hours. 6000 hours X 50 miles per hour = 300,000 miles in dust and dirt at or near max hp ALL THE TIME. Am I a fan YES.

My wife mows with a JD 345 Lawn Tractor with a 20 HP 2 cylinder vertical shaft water cooled Kawasaki gas engine in it. Cub Cadet uses the same engine with a horizontal shaft. Both engines are made(assembled?) in the USA. You don't know what is coming from where.

Just got broke in on a Sterling Earth Boring Machine today. Powered by a Cummins on a Ford tandom.
Also got broke in on boring a hole right through a Natural gas line. Ooops.
Hey, we called before we dug, not our fault.

John Deere mid-size tractors are assembled in Georgia, the engines are made in France. I've got an older 2240JD that was assembled in the Manheim Germany plant, but it's engine was made in France.
I believe that all mid size JD's were made in Germany from the late '70's till the mid '80's when they started production in the Agusta GA plant.
The little one's are still Yanmars though, but from my experience Yanmar is as good as it gets in the compact tractor field, even better than Kubota.

Close friend of mine is a 3rd shift welder at the JD plant in Davenport IA that makes the tracked excavators, ONE MODEL is made in the states, and all the rest are imported. Articulated end loaders, SAME THING, Log Skidders, One or 2 models made in States. Crawlers, Graders, and scrapers are made in Dubuque, IA. Not sure what's made here & abroad. JD has been increasing the amount of stuff they've been importing for the last 20 years or more. With Their New CEO, I look for that trend to increase GREATLY. As far as most popular diesel engine ever made, I'd have to guess the old 855 CID 6 in all it's many variations. It's been made for A LONG time! As for the PowerStroke being just a light duty truck engine, Well, Maybe it is, But Int'l Truck & Eng. had already built 4 MILLION of them over a YEAR AGO, so it's a really popular one! How many CTD Ram's have been built? Someone at Cummins should know how many 5. 9's they've shipped to Dodge... .

The DT 444E(The INT name for the PSD)is in a ton of busses and Interntional 4700 and lower series trucks. Bad thing is most of them are detuned from the ford HP rating. My work truck is a 97INT with a DT466E(466CID I-6) and its only 210BHP with 560ft lbs. The truck wieghs 35000lbs. NOT ENOUGH MOTOR lol. I wish it had a 5. 9 in it at least it would move a little better than it does. I have never seen the PSD in another app other than the Ford trucks/vans and the IH "trucks"

Yeah your right!! But at least you had more gears. Mine has a spicer 7 speed in it. Kinda of a junky transmission, shifter feels like a broomhandle in a bucket of jello. When I am loaded heavy It can take miles to get to highway speeds lol. Which is at fast as it will go, runs out of gears at 68MPH. The 466 has not been so reliable for my employer the last few years. We had one in the shop for a dead injecor(2000 model) and the day we got it back mine through a code and cut the power in half. It was good timing though I am on vacation and i hope they can fix it by next tuesday. Have you seen the 2002 4300s?? Pretty sweet looking trucks and %150 nicer on the inside. But by the time I am due for a new truck I think we will have gone with frieghtliner by then.

Clark - Actually the PSD is called "D-444E" by Int'l Truck & Engine Co. No "T" In it. The DT-466 and 530 both have the "T" in their model number. The DT-466 is offered all the way down to 195 HP. and I think 260 HP on the top end; The DT-530 up to 300 HP. They've been used in single axle tractor applications pulling a pair of 26 ft. Pup trailers with several hundred thousand mile durability and excellent fuel economy. It's not a "Light Duty Truck" engine. Your 210 HP in a 35,000# truck sounds good compared to the old Ready-mix trucks I used to drive, 1966 White with 165 HP Cummins 6 cyl. with 5 X 4 trannys pulling over 50,000#? Even the Diamond Reo with the Cuummins 555 V-8 & Allison auto with 208 HP was "Spunky" compared to the old White. My new white, '79 Road Boss II tractor had a 903 V-8 Cummins and Spicer 6-spd transmission, 320 HP and up to 80,000#. Your Binder STILL has a better power to weight ratio than anything I've driven. #ad
As You can see, I've driven some VERY slow trucks... ... ... .

Clark - Yup, You can only make up for so much lack of HP with gearing. That old White mixer I drove was a real slug. I ended up following an old Blue Hair out of town one afternoon. She would only run the speed limit. Then when the limit went from 30 to 55 She disappeared. With the hills & curves and catching as many of those 20 gears as were usable, I was still running 10 to 15 MPH SLOWER than normal when I was 8 miles out of town! because She wanted to run 25 instead of 30! Oh Well, I was getting paid by the hour! This truck would run maybe 55 loaded and almost 65 empty. 50,000+# loaded and about 22,000# empty. I sat in a new NGT couple weeks ago. DT-466E and your 7-speed. They are a sharp looking truck!
