Dual Exhaust

US Gear D-Celerator E brake problems

Ok Ladies and Gentlemen, I am in the market for a BHAF, can I hear some opinions from eveyone as to which one I should buy(K/N, AFE, etc)? My thanks for all your help. Rattle On everyone!

Run down to Cummins or order online, get the Fleetguard AH19037 ($35+-). Skip the oiled element filters. The Fleetguard BHAF also is less noisy than the K&N's I've had. You may want to build a heat shield for it; however, I have been running without a shield for 1. 5 years and have had no problems or elevated EGTs. I work in some pretty dusty conditions and I just shake out the dirt every oil change.

I also have the BHAF and like it. I also have a moisture repellant/pre filter from Outerwears that come in different colors to make it pretty. I removed my whole old filter housing an cut the studs off as not to damage the new filter. I like the AFE megacannon system, but cant justify the cost right now.

I agree, get the Fleetguard BHAF. I've had the K&N in a cut up stock box... it worked fine , but I like the BHAF better... sounds much better also...

kaptn... ...

do you happen to have the part # or where I can get the outer wears cover.....

Ditto. Been there done that, with exception of swiss cheesing the factory box.

It should be pointed out that, in general, the BHAF is not the same as the K&N or AFE filters. They are both open element but thats about it. The AFE type are oil coated cotton gauze performance filters while the "BHAF" is a paper type OEM filter. They are made for some piece of equipment other than the Dodge truck... but they fit and hook up easy. I have no idea what they actually go to. And the BHAF is... well... big! Quite a bit larger than the AFE cone filters.

Alot of folks like the BHAF because it filters well and is not too expensive. Plus its large size makes for some good airflow. I can get my fleetguard version for $22. They have a massive amount of surface area. But open element paper filters can self destruct if they get wet too often or too much. So be careful. Turbo blades dont like solid particles. They also seem to need a heat shield since their size puts them in close distance to the turbo. Even with a shield, mine gets real warm.

I went back to the AFE drop in fitted into a modified box... but not with holes.

BHAF

I run the one from Baldwin, it has a can around it, I tryed to post a pic but this thang says ive posted this pic before so i guess you'll have to do a search in BHAF to find the pic. Harv:p

1st gen?

I'm having problems with my K&N filtering in my 91 AND Mom's 92, so I know it is no fluke (or flounder, as someone pointed out). I was wondering if it would fit in my stock airbox (93 airbox- "had to" keep K&N when I sold the 93, now wishing I had let the filter go with tht truck. ), or would I have to get a bigger airbox? WHat are general dimensions?

THanks.

I was told this blocks less than 1% of any air flow. I dont have a heat shield and it is holding up OK. It is kind of like a parachute material or tent.

You can even get different colors on the outerwears cover. The last letter in Kaptn's part number (B) i'm guessing stands for black. I believe they can make just about any color you want if that is what you like. I have been running a Napa 2790 with outerwears cover for a year and love it. I do have Larry B's turbo heat shield but it has only been on for a month. No problems. LEss noise than the K&N.

i am using the wix filter which has a metal screen around it. it just lays on the studs. been using for about 2 years now with out problems. brain cramp due to old age so i can not give you pn#. same as the napa in size i believe.

The K&N in my truck sucks! pull the thing out and it picks up some major HP!!going to grt another BHAF for the 02 like the 96 has. Have not had any problems out of it.

Where can I get a BHAF?

Who has the best price on a BHAF and if I replace my stock filter, what will I gain? More power, better mileage? Is it louder or just a deeper sound? Thanks for your help :D Cliff

I get mine through Cummins. When adding more horsepower modifications you will need more airflow. I dont think a stock truck needs this filter, even though I guess more airflow can only help. 10 horsepower maybe? Maybe one of the guru's will chime in with better info.

Anyone know if the above stated air filter options will fit on 03? Or what will fit? I've asked before, but most 03 guys aren't familiar with BHAF yet, though the OEM filter is marginal.

Thanks,

Blake

I have been running the Napa BHAF for 2 years. I would recommend anyone using the BHAF to pay attention to wear on the A/C line near the filter.

I had mine in to the dealer for A/C not getting not getting cold enough. They found a leak right around the Air filter. Lucky I put the stock air box back on before I took it in. Else, I figure they would have blamed the leak on my mod.

Here's a my low cost solution for a heat shield.

Nice heat shield chuck! I have larry B's heat shield for heat, but I need a mount for the BHAF instead of just sitting it on the fender. I am going to buy some 8" duct tonight. thanks for the idea!
