The B series was started in 1983 as a joint venture between Case Equipment Company and Cummins. The 3. 9 and 5. 9 were designed to be interchangable, with the same accessory mounts and many shared internal and external parts. Case equipment before the Cummins venture was powered by Case or other engines.

Also the B-series was designed as agriculture use (obviously) and was also designed for 3rd world use. (crap fuel, poor maintenance, shoddy operation) one of the reasons that the B is a strong engine and takes quite alot to kill it.

A lot of Case ag tractors and construction equipment had B series in them. Dozers, tractors, backhoes, trenchers, cranes, almost any machine with less then 120 hp was B series cummins powered.
