Does any one have any experience, good or bad, with the B&W Companion 5th wheel hitch. I like being able to remove the coupler from the bed and not have any rails in the way. I don't have a 5er yet, but am starting to look. Thanks for any info.

I love mine (look at sig ) and want one for my 04. 5, it is made of high quality and high precision components & material. :):):)

I like mine. I got it because I was tired of the rails from the Reese hitch I had before. The one thing I dont like is the time it takes to R&R the B&W. The Reese just needed 4 pins pulled and I was done, less than two minutes and no tools. B&W, 10-15 minutes and a 3/4" socket and torque wrench.

I Love Mine I Pull With My 35ft 5th Wheel All Over And I Love It. It Is Also Nice Because I Also Pull A 40ft Goose Neck For Work So It Is Easy To Switch Between The Two

I used my first one transporting RVs for 2. 5 years so it got a lot of miles and was still tight as new when done. I recently picked up a used 5th wheel to live in while away from home so rather then have my hitch shipped to me I just bought a new one and sold the old one so I'm a believer in them.

Sure it may take a few more minutes to R&R but it's one solid hitch with no slop at all in the jaws and you have a clean bed floor when it's out. I ran a lube disk the entire time and the powder coating on the plate still looked good at the end.

I like the way the jaws cinch around the 5ver's pin, where you know its proper or you can't close them. I saw and offered to help a stranded Dodge with a 5ver that had come off the 5th wheel, it really tore up the bed of his truck. He was getting off Interstate 15 in baker, to head for Death Valley when the pin some how slipped out of the locking mechanism. I didn't see the brand of hitch but it was of a locking sliding bar type and was a slider in a short bed, but the locking bar was not like the RBW hitches have, which I have with my "Lil Rocker" in my 2500. This would not have happened if it were the B&W companion hitch. He was waiting for the Good Sam Club to show and thanked me anyway.

All I can say is that it was money well spent! I just pulled my 5ver to Alaska and you won't see roads test a hitch anymore than that! The section of road from Whitehorse to Tok was the worst I've ever seen it this year and the hitch performed flawlessly.

I have one and use it all the time... .

I have one complaint... when you install it, you have to torque a bolt that is vertical and than tighten the U-Bolts... . to remove it you have to go through the reverse procedure... . Or better said, didn't know I'd have to do this each time it was in or out... .

And after using it... if it didn't clamp down so to speak to the bed it would tend to shift or twist..... so the torque and clamping make sense...

Just understand you can't just pull the release pin pull it out... . or drop it in and pin it down... .

However I have seen some installed where they can walk in the bed because the owner didn't have them correctly installed...

With this in mine I leave a 7/8" (right size) ratcheting box end attached to the hitch with a magnet... . so I don't have to go chase one each time I wish to remove it... .
