I sold my 2002 dually last weekend and forgot to get a measurement. Can someone who has a B&W Turnoverball gooseneck hitch please help me out? If you will, lay a 2x4 across the top of the bed rails and measure from the bottom of the 2x4 to the top surface of the Turnoverball gooseneck hitch receiver in the bed and post the measurement.

The reason for this is that I use the B&W Companion 5th wheel hitch to tow our 5th wheel, and with the measurement you take I can take the same measurement on our 2011 dually and know how much (if any) I need to raise the 5th wheel hitch height to get the same clearance between the 5th wheel trailer and the bedrails that I had with my 2002.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey, Bill, good to "see" you. I've just been grinding away at the salt mines working toward retirement, towing the 5th wheel around the countryside when I have a few days off and getting some motorcycle riding in when I can. I miss the old LSTDR breakfast get-togethers - we need to try to pull together a reunion breakfast one of these days for those of us who can still get out of bed and get vertical.

I finally had to switch over to an automatic-equipped truck after some leg, hip and back problems laid me up this summer. We were at the Grand Canyon when my hip and leg began hurting so badly that I couldn't even drive us home - a friend of ours who is an over-the-road trucker drove the rig back to Cypress from Williams, AZ. That's when Sandy gave me the ultimatum to get a truck that she could drive when towing the 5th wheel - she wasn't comfortable towing with the 6-speed manual in the 2002, so we ordered a 2011 and picked it up last Saturday. I've just about gotten it rigged up for 5th wheel towing this week but need to make any adjustments on the hitch before we take the RV out for a trial run.

Rusty,

I got 20 inches from top of hitch receiver to bottom of straight edge resting on the bed rails.

I have an Alfa 5th wheel trailer. I set the adjustments on the B&W Turnover Companion 5th wheel to as far forward as possible and in the lowest of three settings. This gives me 4 inches clearance between the bottom of the trailer and the top of the bed rails.

Rusty,

I suppose it's crazy to ask, but do you have your old measurements for the 2002? I'm getting ready to order a companion hitch before I go pick up the new 5th wheel i've ordered, and would like to have the hitch assembled and as close as possible before the pickup trip.
