Lubercation Information - Always Good

I need a mathamatician?(spl)

After a couple false starts and some down pipe fabrication I got it installed last night. Put some miles on today around Denver(5000') and have a few observations...

5th gear 10 sec pull

Stock hx35/12

Comp 3x5

Max Boost: 31 psi

EGTs quickly climb to 1400 and then go on up to 1600.

Comp 5x5

Max Boost: 31 psi

EGTs quickly climb to 1500 and then go on up to 1650+.

B1-2

Comp 3x5

Max Booost: 34 psi

EGTs slowly climb to 1100 and top out at about 1150.

Comp 5x5

Max Boost: 38 psi

EGTs slowly climb to 1450 and then fall back to 1400.

So far I am impressed. Spoolup is very little different. Seems to have lost a little low end hit but comes on harder from 1800 on up. I think I need a little more fuel to turn this thing though. I thought I would see 42-45 psi boost but with Mach 2s and Comp I may not have quite enough fuel at this point to make 45 psi. With stock 35 I could hammer it for a few seconds before EGTs started to get a little high. With B1-2 EGTs are now a non-issue no matter how long I stand on it. I think some Mach4s are in my future :)

Its going to get REAL hot with Mach4's and your altitude..... you'll be able to run injectors only no problem, but your COMP box will become difficult to use if your worried about EGT..... just FYI. The 4's are a pretty healthy injector... ..... my understanding is the latest 4's run a lil cleaner and cooler then the ones I have. But I think fighting the altitude like you will be won't help any :(

Moved to products. Evertime I see your location... . I think about work... and not blocking the RR crossing in PineCliff ;)

Glad to hear you got it in.

M4's are going to be too much for it at that altitude though... they are for Denis at 4000' for sure. Although the new ones he has do run cleaner and aren't as hot as his old 3. 7's.

I think the downpipe fabbing was the worst part of doing the turbo installs when we were doing ours.

Now that is some interesting and very local knowledge for someone from the land of corn lol. You must be an engineer eh? Fortunately, I live just to the east side up on the top of the hill on the south side of the tracks, so I don't have to cross to get to Denver. Does this look familiar?

That is Moffet tunnel west of Denver that transverses something like 6 miles under the Continental Divide.

Ok on the turbo... Let me ask this... would Mach4s with B1-2 run any hotter that Mach2s with 35/12? My guess is no? If EGTs would be no worse with Mach4s and B1 then I would be fine. How many times are you really able to stand on it for more than 5-10 seconds? I know with my 4. 10s even with 35" tires, in 5th gear you can go from 45-90 real fast :) Since I don't tow anything heavier than a 2 place sled trailer(1500lbs) I seriously doubt if EGTs are ever really an issue for my application. Who knows... After being around dbook's HO motor it seems like the HOs are a lot more prone to EGTs issues compared to the STD. I will say this, the majority opinion that I came up with from doing a lot of reading was that lag would be a big issue with the B1-2 at this altitude and in my opinion it's hardly even noticable compared to 35/12.

The reason you're not seeing the lag is because you have a manual. You'll have to find a way to take a ride in a tight t/c'd auto someday, that is when you'll find out what lag is all about.

No, the M4's shouldn't be any worse than the 2's w/ the old turbo. However, you are going to smoke your head sooner, rather than later with the big injectors... 99% sure my head is already toast, just waiting till I have the money to get a fully done head from Piers. I see +1600*F on a very regular basis w/ my M3's and B-1-2... I'm sure I have cracks around the valve seats.

I'll let you know how it runs down at about 1200' this Friday. Am going to Phoenix drag racing for the first time, and I won't let out till I'm past the 1/4. Hope the ambient temps are below 100*F down there this weekend, otherwise I'm gonna see some really big EGTs.

The Moffat is 6. 2 miles actually. I'm a train dispatcher, so if the crossing is blocked just go ahead and blame it on the dispatcher :) I lived in CastleRock for about 5 years, then moved out here to take my job with UP. I've always worked 80,82,86 which is most of Colorado. Working 82 dayshift now while the regular person gets her knee replaced, so I go from Rocky Flats to Dotsero..... upto Phippsburg and out to Craig.
