Well, what you're talking about IS the wastegate system, but I'm having a hard time following what you're asking about it. There is an actuator arm that comes out of the exhaust housing, and there is a set-bolt on the back side that is there to keep it closed (so it doesn't open) when it's not in use (which it shouldn't be in your application). What you can do to check this is to loosen the lock-nut on the set bolt and back it off and then move the actuator arm and then move the arm to the all-the-way closed position and screw the bolt back in against it, tighten it down (not TOO tight, you don't want to break the wastegate inside) and then tighten down the locknut.

I once actuated my wastegate to try and get more top end, but didn't have a strong enough spring and could only get 35 PSI boost and compared to 45 PSI boost, the power just isn't there. I don't remember what the EGT's did when I had it like this though... just that the seat-o-the-pants meter said I didn't gain anything. Kurt's story was that if I opened the wastegate and got it to run right at 40 PSI on the top end, I'd have lowered EGT's because of more airflow out the exhaust, and this would in turn create more power due to more air being able to get in.

Will take some pics of what I'm talking about tomorrow so I can explain in more detail. I'd definitely call Ken again and see what he has to say about it. Like I said before... straight to the source, go right by Kurt.....

Yeah, that lever on top which way is it supposed to face when the wastegate is closed? I'm just thinking it might be locked in the open position.

That's what I'm talkin' about! I'm only seeing 36psi max with Comp on level 5. That's why I think it might be locked down in the wrong position:confused:

no way to lock it open... you can unlock it so it swings freely, but then you will lose all your bottom end because the gate will open up first then when it starts getting any pressure on it, which is why you have to try and use a spring if you want to actuate it.

Yours may be open some which may be causing your problems... can you move the lever at all with your hand?

I don't really know which way it's supposed to be when it's closed... . opened to closed on the wastegate is like maybe 1/4-1/2" of travel... not much. I'll take a pic of mine this afternoon when I get done w/ class and will post them for you to reference yours against.

BW,

Checking back pressure,,,, I have never done it myself, as myself have perfectly operating trucks that require no diagnostics at anytime. ;) Right Jim? :p

What I have been told is take a good length of copper tubing, and put it into your manifold where your EGT probe is, and then connect your boost gauge line onto the copper tubing.

The length of copper tubing will let your exhaust air cool down before entering your plastic boost hose.

IT'S FIXED!Oo. Oo. Oo. It was the wastegate flap! I loosened the set screw, opened the wastegate and pulled it back closed and it went further closed than it was. I IMMEDIATLY tightened it back down, jumped in and down the road I went! I noticed from the start that boost was coming up fast and EGT's stayed down. Now for the Comp box. Turned the box on level 3 and 40 psi with ease :D on up to level 5 and------HOLY S@#% :--) It went sideways in 4 wheel drive:cool: (I have snow covered roads;) ). So needless to say, it's fixed:D

Thanks everyone for there help it was greatly appreciated!

Now if I can just get a little more fuel... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... . :D
