John,

I miss the PSD every now and then. I know who has the truck and I see it every week or so. I miss the room on vacation and so do the kids. That will be solved here in a few months. I had the truck so heavy... almost 9K empty that it was starting to fell like a stock PSD. . not good... and it was down to about 13mpg on the freeway. I will go with lighter bumpers this time. I prefer a CUMMINS under the hood, but prefer a CREWCAB a little more so I guess I will make do with both... teenage son will drive the Cummins down the road. That ought to be a busy Saturday pulling half of the crap off it... or should we check out the responsibility for a couple of days by measuring rear tread depth. I can't stand a slow truck. We are really planning the Northeast trip next summer and we will definitely be in Cary... friends on a GOLF course. I will keep in touch... . CJ

CJ:

Thanks for the reply!

I now see where you have the 2003 Ford PSD on order!

I am happy for you!:) I think some of the Ford PSD

owners miss your input on this site. Let us know

how you like the new one and call me if you ever

get out here!

BTW, let us know what you decide on the turbo

and how you like it once you get it on!!

Take care CJ!

Does anyone know how the H2E Bell Hybrid turbo with the 14cm housing compares to either of these turbos? Am I correct in thinking that a turbo mount Pacbrake would work with this turbo?

Thanks,

Dan

I tried one of the Bell h2's with a mmodified 12 housing on it and it worked very well but not as good for towing as the PDR hx-40 with a 16.

Bell is working on a new turbo as we speak and it is on my truck now, keep your hats on this is a good one. So far the fastest single turbo I have tried to date and we think there is more. I have been beating it at 50 psi for a few weeks now and towing at over 40 psi and so far so good. I will keep you all posted when I have more info.

Great news there Blair :) Please keep us posted on any new developments with the new Bell turbo. I am quite set on a B1 early next year, but am always willing to consider other promising alternatives :D

Tom

The name is PIUS, as in Pope :D

Please don't bother him unless you are serious because I want him to spend more time on turbos for my truck

Actually I love the special HX55 he did for me. Spools like a 40/16 and really flows the air. Pius was building turbos, including multiple setups for pulling tractors, while his competition was in diapers :). Many of the multi-turbo setups we see originated with him, in concept at least.

By the way, the HX40 housing is 18 cm2 not 18. 5. The HX35 uses 18. 5.

Hey who let Joe D in here? Where have you been? Old Sickly didn't break down and leave you stranded some where did it ?

While you have been away we have been building turbo's so you better try and catch up the old technology 55 is out so you better catch up or you will be left in the dust buddy.

No, But Joe did stop for a bathroom break :(

Welcome back Joe :)

Joe you say your HX55 spools like an 40/16. How will that work on a pulling truck? does your 55 flow more than 850cfm? or should I stick with the H2E? unfortunatly I have to use a single. How many cc of fuel are you using, more than 950cc?

See TDR #37 for airflow information. Within the range of best efficiency, the HX 35 flows 600 cfm, the HX40 700, the H2E 750 and the HX55 850. All will flow more if you accept lower efficiency ratings.

I don't know how much fuel my engine uses, since it is determined by the pump and by the injectors. A pump that can flow 1000 cc/1000 strokes won't help if the injectors can only pass 200 during the time period the fuel is available.

Lots of folks use Pius turbos. For example the Erb Brothers in California use 3 or 4 of them on each of their pulling tractors. Bell is a small shop and he doesn't advertise to get bulk sales. His custom work is just that and takes a lot of effort to optimize for the engine.

I'm not doubting the Pius' work JD, you stand behind him and that's enough for me in that department. I was figuring on things like turn-around-time, cores, technical details, re-sale if it gets too small, etc.

I don't know if the custom-application hassles, like coming up with a HX40, shipping it out and back and all, are worth it when a body could order one "off the rack" from PDR. Especially when dealing with this small and sorta common application.

I'm not planning on going over the mid to high 4's in HP. If I ever do, then I understand how each engine becomes more of a fingerprint and has special needs best suited by somewhat custom work.

Just wondering if anyone else has a Bell-tuned turbo on a 5. 9?

I am working with Pius on a few turbo's as we speak, he is a very busy man in a 2 man shop so some of this experimental turbo work takes a while. He is very good at what he does and is worth waiting for, I will keep you all posted on how this turbo turns out and its cost and availability when it is ready.

WadePatton: The Piers hx-40 is a great turbo at a good price ( I paid for mine) and is what I run when I am not playing with new ideas. Piers will always treat you right and will be there for you if you need him. This is a great turbo for the 350 to 450 hp trucks used for towing as well.

My6eatsv8's also runs Pius ( Bell Turbo ) twin turbo's, and they as well work very good.

I forgot one thing, like Joe said he is very busy and does not have a lot of time to talk on the phone but if you are serious he will. So if you have any more questions fell free to ask Joe or me I am sure we can help.

Wade,

The PDR HX40 or the B-1 turbo will get you to 500 hp on diesel only with the right injectors. Alltho over 450 egts will be hot.

Both turbos are quality units.
