IP Timing with WVO?

This is what I got hand calculated. We had a few mornings in the low 40's with B100 which did not help mileage.

68 miles less per tank w/ B100. This was a big hit for me.

16 days between fill ups w/ B100. It's usually 30+. Another big hit.

$3. 41 a gallon for B100 vs. $3. 08 for B20.

Things I like about B100:

1. ) There is a marked reduction in engine noise. It's almost unbelievable. I miss it already. Not nearly as quiet w/ B20.

2. ) I love the exhaust small of B100. It does not smell like french fries, but has a very "clean" smell.

In an older post I wrote that B100 seemed to have better or equal throttle response to #2. I have to change this. With B20 and my "stack" of additives (Amalgamated, Amsoil Cetane Boost, Fuel Power 60) B20 does have noticeably better throttle response.

In a nutshell: I still love B100. :)

Headshot zod,

I thought I read that it's best to retard your timing when running B100?

Mine's at about 14. 6°

I'm still on my first tank with B99. 9 so I don't have mileage yet. I tried to put my Bully Dog back on to see about power but my clutch still slips. I guess it means I still have power.

From what I have read, they are retarding the timing to reduce emissions even further because the B100 has a higher oxygen content. I feel that cummins already did that which is why we advance it as a basic mod. Personally it seems silly to me to reduce ones mileage to reduce NOX emissions and then have to burn more fuel in the process.

If you have a little extra space in the shop you could make you own, it's not that hard to do. After you recover the cost of setting up your processor, which wont take too long at these crazy prices today, you can make you own for under a buck a gallon.

I've been thinking about trying my own set up but they keep trying to regulate the little guys out of it in CA. They have a $100 license that is required to carry WVO. With that they require you to be a licensed for tax purposes in the state and that requires being registered with the Federal Gov't. They don't want to hear from a little guy. Kind of a mess. Leave it to CA.

I feel sorry for you California guys you state wants to squeeze every last drop of possible revenue they can think of :(

That almost makes up for all the great weather you get to enjoy :p

I guess the good weather is just a matter of perspective. I just filled up after my first tank of B99. 9. I saw a drop of 6% in fuel economy. I went from a B20 tank of 14. 5 mpg to a B99. 9 tank of 13. 7 mpg. I'm giving it another tank to see. Right now B99. 9 is $3. 29/gal and B20 is $3. 09/gal. So a 6% price premium for a 6% decrease in fuel economy. The truck doesn't smoke unless I put the Bully Dog on. Then it doesn't look any different than #2.

Bill Fleming from the DTR said he usually sees more than a 2 MPG decrease w/ B100. He seemed surprised it was that little.

Not so fast, my friend. The B-100 I've burned has given 1/2 to 1 mpg less, at the worst... and the same mileage at best. It seems that city driving suffers more than a long highway trip, though.
