They get 5 cents a gallon here for the 20% blend. I thought it was supposed to have more BTUs but in the time I used it, I couldn't tell.

I heard/read somewhere that "name brand" stations only have to buy one tanker out of so many to keep the name. The rest of the fuel can come from anywhere and probably isn't BETTER quality.



I've never had any probs that I can attribute to B2, B10, B20, or even B40. Until I do I'll continue to use it.



Stations areound here are the same way with pricing. Right now B20 should add only $. 05 at the most. Anyone chargin that for B2 is trying to run bio out of the marketplace. There's way too big of a tax break for bio to cost that much. Blenders are/were getting $1. 00/gal rebate for bio. Not sure if that's still in effect though. That's what made bio competitive. The good blenders/resellers will pass at least most of that along. I know my fuel guy does, probably 'cause I know about it.

Bio has less BTU's than Dino. It has a higher cetane though.



SHobbs here in TDR has been running B100 if I am not mistaken in his 2000. In my 04 I have run as high as B70 but normally run around B50. Anything above B50 and my mileage decreases around 1mpg.

So with the higher Cetane, the combustion is more even but it has lower BTUs. Thanks.

i think the more common problem is the methanol in the fuel cleans as a solvent...

For the record, there isn't any methanol in ASTM spec bio diesel. Methanol can be used in the conversion process, but any residual is washed out, if it is processed properly. Poorly processed fuel could have methanol or glycerin in it, only if it is out of spec. The bio itself does has a cleaning effect.

The stuff I found in my filter was like glycerin. I think it is poorly processed fuel even though it is coming from a reputable source. It was hard to get out of the filter cannister because it is so slick. I had to use those 3 X 3 inch cotton wipes like you find in hospitals. The gauze took most of it out and I was able to flush the rest once I broke it free.
