Hey!! The right clothes, laying in the snow's not too bad... . if it's deep enough to actually cover you up. I was up in Kansa one time, and I made cold camp about 15-20 miles North of the house, getting dark with the wind blowing like hell... . I found a little creek bottom with some trees, and staked the horses next to me in some brush under the small cedars, and backed up against a rock kinda under a tree. 'bout midnight the wind laid a little, but we were all freezing our obama's off. About two-three I finally got warm and went to sleep. I woke up after daylight, and kinda was confused. There was something covering the flap on my bedroll... . lifted it up and dumped snow all in my bag with me!!! Snow is a good insulator from the wind!!! I had a good drift on me on the back side of the big rock I was against. Froze my arse off getting to the barn, though. Lucky it didn't snow more, or might have had hell getting the horses home!! Packed out afoot into NorthWestern New Mexico one weekend, too, with a friend, and we took too long out, so we camped in a small gulley off the edge of a cliff. Probably 3 feet deep, but out of the wind. We didn't think we needed a fire, but we were freezing our arses off until the light snow kinda filled in on top of us, shortly after dark. We slept good after that!! Wierd, huh? Dig you a hole in the snow, cover up in a good bag, and wait for the little chicken killer to come by!!!
