FASS: Pros and Cons

Installed New Bombs

I am curious about the reliabilty of the FASS, and I'm not knocking it at all, I like it! But what happens if it goes belly up for some reason away from home. With a lift pump, I can replace it if I need to, there are places all over to get one, but to replace something on a FASS, I don't know, maybe they're indestructable... ! Any comments??

well it's an electrical pump nothing is impossible. I'm still hunting around for a mechanical pump that's not a bank breaker.

From what I gather the pump is nothing more then a pump used in a Semi application. I am sure that you could pull it off and take it to any big rig shop to get a suitable replacement.

DTT new system isn't even remotely camparable to the FASS. It uses the stock housing for filtration and is a mechanical pump that is belt driven off the crank. Very slick setup. Not sure if it is out yet but if it isn't out then it can't be much longer.

Just leave stock lift pump in place, carry with you 2 feet of fuel hose and you can easily switch back . I did that. But I'll tell you one thing, just looking on the FASS pump and OEM pump give me the confidence I'll not need to make emergency switch anytime soon . Only thing I don't like was a L shape mounting bracket, because FASS was on the end of it, but I drilled new holes closer to the center of bracket and look to me much better. Fuel pressure don't change no matter what I do, that I like very much and I think engine is not so noisy. Not so sure about rest of the claims, better MPG , power... ... Just 750 miles so far with this set up. But I think FASS will easily survive 3 OEM lift pump to pay for it self. IMHO

me:cool:

The RASP is comparable in price to the FASS. Well the pump is, the plumbing is extra. I'm still debating it, it's supposed to be a slick unit, just expensive and time consuming to install. I think it's ideal though.

I dont like the way the FASS mounts either. I followed the directions to a tee, and my fuel pressure fluctuates with the bumbs in the road. I am still working on a way to rubber mount it. Also, I do wish the pressure was higher. Other than that, I like it, but its not winter yet, either.

Has anyone had trouble with the FASS system in the winter? Do you need to install a fuel line heater prior to the filter? I'm getting ready to purchase a system, but want to know all the info I can. Thanks for your help!! :)

As cold as it gets here, I'm thinking sticking it on the bottom of the truck just isn't going to happen for me. Especially up snowmobiling or ice fishing, not a good place to get stranded.
