Hello... and salutations to all... ... .

I've been away from the board for quite some time... ...

(funny..... I managed to save up a few dollars without all the tempations of BOMBING in my ear... )

My wife says you all are a BAD influence on me..... :{

SO... now I need help to spend my Christmas Money!!!!!!

Here is my plan... .

HID lighting... . !!!!!!

Gotthavit if I ever heard of one!!!!...

I guess in Oklahoma they don't believe in STREET LIGHTS!!!!!

So... .

I still want to maintain a "High beam" so that means a sport conversion has to be performed first...

I have the back issue of the TDR that goes over the procedure... BUT not for HID...

I spoke to Jen as SUV LIGHTING... and he said that the "negative gnd" issue isn't a problem with HID... (OK???)

I had him quote me a "Custom Harness" that will keep the HID low beam on when the Halogen "High" beam is selected... .

A fully potted set of Bosch ballasts..... Good price... .

Now I need to start ordering parts... I need a COMPLETE list of required parts... and a good source for them... (My local dealer STINKS... Plain and Simple) for the sport conversion. .

Thanks.....

AND

I REALLY MISSED ALL YOU GUYS!!!!!

HVAC... . CMechanic... HEMIDart... . Evan... . EVERYONE!!!!!!!

Glad to be back!!!!!

Bomb-On!!!

Larry Quinn

welcome back Larry do you miss the East Coast?

Is the wife still supporting the BOMBing habit?

Just kidding its been ages ;)

Miss the east coast????... . well... I do miss the ocean... . but really didn't like Connecticut too much... .

The best thing about living in CT for me was that Ted Jannetty was within a 45 miniute drive!!!!!

Oo.

I really like it here in OK...

Cost of living is SOOOOO much lower... .

The house I have here now, I could never have afforded in CT...

But I digress. .

I have been so busy this last YEAR?!?!?!? that anything beyond routine maintainance has been out of the question.

I finally had to put my foot down at work... NO MORE UNPAID OVERTIME GUYS>>>

TOOOOO many work hours!.

If I was being compensated for the extra time... fine... but to give up my life for free gets old!!

Evan Beck got back to me about the HID lighting... . and the idea is starting to gell in my mind... .

The only thing that is turning me off at this point is paying the dealer 360$ for the sport lights w/ turn signals!!!!

If I'm going to shell out @ $550 just for the HID... then I'm going to have to squeeze the sport lights for a few more dollars...

I also am not impressed with Dodge housings...

I have replaced... 4 SETS due to bad glue seams... . (warranty work)

Thanks for the warm welcome back!!!

Just a quick opinion on HID lights... YMMV.

I'm an amatuer astronomer so very interested in vision.

Humans evolved on good ol' planet earth, utilizing Sol for illumination. Our eyes are therefore best utilized with light like our suns, a bit yellow green. HID's are a far shorter wavelength. More towards the blue end of the spectrum. This provides 2 major liabilities. White and blue light tend to wipe out night vision quicker than the longer wavelengths. Shorter wavelenths also tend to refract much more, providing lots and lots of glare in rainey, foggy, or dusty conditions. There is a movement to get rid of HID's here in Washington (lots of fog and rain). France and Switzerland have done away with them and Germany and most of Scandinavia are also looking into it.

HID's are kind of like a DuraMax... looks good but in reality that dog won't hunt.

Inclimate weather?

Good point, Rodg.

Sooooo..... Having said that, how are the HID's at night in inclimate weather(i. e. rain/fog)? Anybody with the HID's notice this?

Thanks in advance,

JGabl.

The only thing I have noticed about HID's is that they sure seem work well. Driving behind a car with true HID's it looks to me that they shine through all sorts of wet, snowy crappy weather when the lights on my truck look like candles.

RPetersen-

If you look at the chart below you will see that 5000 K HID lights are actually colser to true sunlight than a typical halogen bulb at 3200 K. I have no idea about the wave length, just practical experinece with driving behind an HID equipped vech.

I don't have HID's yet but am planning on doing at least a low beam conversion on my truck soon. I have a sport truck but need to set up the relay and extra wrires to make it a positive switched system for all this to work.

Just got an email back from www.suvlights.com asking about a harness to upgrade my light wiring to positive switched and heavy wire... no problem $65 for the harness that does all four bulbs from one side or $115 for two harness, one for each side that hook to battery closer to the light. I am callling and ordering tomorrow... I may even go for a set of HID's at the same time... but I will have to think about it as they are over 5 bills.

John. . I'd be interested in the info about battery to light also. . I know that a direct link to the battery gives off much better light. . but I'm no electrican

Gary,

No problem. I emailed suvlights.com and asked about a harness for our neg switched 9004/9007 set up and they said no problem. They build them but I would have to wait a couple of days so they could build one with a resistor soldiered into the relay... did not ask about that but figure is to prevent some sort of feedback or something... . I ordered two harnesses today for $130 delivered. This will allow me to hook up both sides seperatley and straight to the batts on each side. The stock switch will remail as the triger. This will let me run bigger lights if I want and should make the stock lights a little brighter. I still plan on HID one day but wanted to try this first. I may order some silvania silverstars or somthing similar to try first. PM me if you need more... .

This is all good info. There's a reason that fog lights are amber-- the light scatters less. If you've ever noticed, it's much mroe difficult to focus your eyes late at night on something that's bright blue than on something that's a red color.

I think the best lighting would be as close to the color temp of sunlight as you can get without going past it. If you've seen these cheap blue headlight bulbs in action on the ricers and such, you know what I mean. I, too, think HID is way trick and would love to do it, BUT... .

what I will do is the spot headlight conversion, THEN add aftermarket HID lights from Raybrig, Hella, or Piaa. Better overall lighting package, more flexibility, and less cost.

my cents of things... :)
