Hi to everybody. I have Q. about back up alarm when you open door.

Yesterday I find out first time that when you put reverse and door are open immediately when you start to move back, alarm start to sound very loudly. It is possible to disable this alarm ? It is pretty annoying . Truck is 07 2500 5. 9 L AT

M:confused:

The easiest way to disable it permanently is to short the seatbelt sensor wires. Look down at your driver's side seat belt buckle and then look down a little further until you find the wire coming out of it. That should lead to a connector. Detach the connector. If it's anything like my '06 you'll see two pins on the side of the connector towards the floor of the vehicle. Take a female spade connector and slip it over the two pins. You're done, and it is completely reversible. It took me 5 minutes, a flashlight, and a pair of longnose pliers. I learned the trick on this forum by reading some of the 10,000 posts.

Why disable a safty feature? You can ride the brake and the horn will not sound. I find that with mirrors there is no reason to open a door when backing up.

When hooking up my trailer I don't shut the door for minute little adjustments.

BTW it's not a safety feature. It's a lame/cheap way of not fixing the quirky autos that don't like to go into park.

OK, leave your door open and ride the brake and the horn will not blow. If you are making fine adjustments to get your hitch lined up, then I am sure you are moving slow and want to be able to stop quickly when your lined up. If you jump out of the truck to see where the hitch is, you have the vehical in park and no horn will sound.

You know I think this this "fix" is like maditory seat belt use and cycle helmets. These are all good ideas but no one likes to be told that they have to do something. We like to take care of ourselfs and there is resistence for anyone, other then our mothers, who tell us what we must do.

I still can't see the problem, but I am sure that those who are concerned will figure out a way to defeat the system.

I've heard other talk about clicking the parking brake or fastening the seatbelt behind them. I did some testing on my 2005 over the weekend. On the 2005's it was a "recall" and added after. Anyway, neither fastening my belt or clicking the parking brake disabled it. I checked today and it appears that riding the brake will work though.

For me, it even does it if I have it fully in park, open the door and then take my foot off the brake at it "settles" into park, it will let out one quick honk. All VERY annoying. Sure wish I had told them NOT to do it.

My truck doesn't care what is done, seat belt fastened, parking brake on, foot on the brake, nothing. It even honks when put into neutral from drive? I'm actully thinking of disconnecting the stupid horn! It is damn annoying and as far as it being a "safety feature", I'll lived this long with lots of autos in the family with no issues... ... ... ... ... ... ... Once again, ntsb trying to save people from themselves! I'll shut up now. :-laf
