Looking for info and experience about back up cameras on the back of your Trailer or Motorhome, preferably wireless.

Stand alone systems as well as tying into dash back up cam.

TIA David

David;

I am not a very big fan of back-up cameras on trailers! I still like the idea of a spotter; the DW (Dear Wife) or other comment you would like to use. I tried one when we where looking for a new 5er and Cedar Creek offers one as an attachment. At the dear where I tried this out it seem to have a limited viewing area a 2014 model that they had on the lot for sale. My wife's eyes are a lot better in my opinion.

Now if you are going solo than this may be an improvement over trying to back up without one.

My other issues is electronics will fail when you need them the most. One of my engineering laws that I always lived by when designing tractors.

Yes, BUT.... you CAN argue with a back-up camera, and not have to sleep on the couch because of the difference between "left" and "right". :D

I realize it isn't wireless, but I put a $15 ebay camera on the back of my Travel Trailer. Then ran coax the lenght of the camper and Y'd it in the the camera on the truck bumper. I then put a switch in the cab (3-way) so I can power one or the other camera. Then ran the video feed into my Edge CTS... It works great and was cheap.

Like the OP, I've been wondering about a back up camera when I have my Lance camper on board. Even with the window in the back of the camper door, there is a big blind spot there.

I thought I would like to get an extra Mopar tailgate camera that plugs right into the same connector that the tailgate plugs into. Did some research and saw that I can buy the Mopar camera and harness for about $172 that would use my existing connectors. Drawback is it only works in reverse.

The wireless options may be better since they could be used to eliminate blind spots while traveling too. Thanks for the ideas so far and thanks to the OP for getting me to think about this again. Just got back from a trip yesterday with the Lance and while navigating through big city traffic and construction was constantly reminded about my big blind spot.

I have been married for 45 years and I learned long ago that she is always right even when she is wrong.

We have worked out a set of hand signals so this is what I watch for in backing up.

We have them also but the DW does not like them. So we use hand signals and she stands at the LH rear corner always looking for me in the mirror. If she can see me than I can see her.

I've followed hand signals backing engines and tenders into tight spots over many years. But that's with those who do well with hand signals. My confidence in the radios comes from all those low branches, stumps and boulder we tend to camp near. Not to mention the tight spot I need to back the trailer into at home. I've got about 3-4" of wiggle room in the back for parking. I can hear STOP really well over the mic! I have better reaction time with that.

No it "watch out for the ... "crunch that way you know what you hit. You not only can see the damage you just did you get to hear all about it sooner. Wait a minute ... I think I just talked myself out of one with audio:)

Ok so it took me about a year but I finally bought a Back up camera for the TT. It is a wired version. Only problem is where do I mount the 7" monitor? I don't want to leave screw hose in the dash and I only need it when the TT is attached. My truck is an 08 and an auto this time so it has the flip down cup holder below the radio and I do use it. Any ideas or examples?

I have a wireless that I ordered as an option. It helps some for backing but I really like it to see my RZR on the trailer I tow behind. It is also useful for changing lanes in traffic as it is easier to know when I am far enough ahead of the passed vehicle. I usually set the monitor in the console where I can see it.The audio is of some use if there is no wind. Wind just makes a lot of noise.
