Recently the back-up lights on my '03 with 6-sp transmission started to act up. When in reverse gear they sometimes light up, sometimes they don't, and some times they sort of randomly go on and off. Any ideas?

Needless to say, I am not a mechanic, but I do love having and driving the beast.

For those of you with 7/70 powertrain, and under 70k miles, I'd bet the transmission reverse light switch may just be covered under warranty.

As a side note, mine's on order, too.

funny this should come up, as i was backing in last night i noticed if i pushed the stick just a tad in some more it would brighten the back up lights by about another half...

If your truck is over 3 yrs old or has over 50K mi there is a $100 deductable on the driveline :(

It's on the passenger side, kind of in the middle has two wires going to it. Simple screw in switch. The ball gets depressed by the reverse gear shaft completing the circuit. I replaced mine (my own pocket) last month.

On a side note, most states don't require reverse lights, so it's not really that important.

I do like to see where I'm backing. Wife and friends(haven't tried teaching the dog )don't like holding a flashout and guiding me while backing.
