trying to trouble shoot why we have no reverse lights. can anlyone tell us where the reverse switch is located. is it on the transmission or steering colum. all fuses ok, and bulbs. just cant locate switch/or relay. any help/and or suggestions are ok. vechicle is a 2500, automatic 4x4. thanks a bunch, jerry

Jerry,

The reverse switch is physically threaded into the drivers side of the transmission close to where the linkage is attached to the transmission. I have to lift my shift lever towards Nuetral to get my backup lights to come on. I've been through the linkage adjustment and have yet to get it all lined up.

I have the fluid draining from my transmission tonight for a regular fluid change. There is an actuator lever on the valve body that contacts the switch when in the Reverse position. Tomorrow when there's more light, I'll see if that arm is just not sweeping across the switch properly on mine and let you know if there is any adjustment around that valvebody.

There was no adjustment on the arm that sweeps that switch. There is a small detent on the actuator that when in reverse, the metal tip is released. Since I loosened the valve body to drain more of the transmission fluid, I used the slight slop in the bolt holes to position the valve body to release the switch as much as possible when tightening the body back up.

Backup lights are working again without having to lift up on the shift lever. Seems that the contact tolerance should not need to be so tight. The only other thing would be to slightly unthread that switch, but that is just asking for a leak.

I didn't know are trucks had backup lights the damb things aren't any brighter than my brake lights anyway so I couldn't tell if they worked or not. Put some warn backup lights on with a switch in the cab and love them, you do get a big responce from talegaters when you turn them on.
