2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission back up lights (suggestions) please

I just went to work (John Deere Dealership) and bought 2- 3X5

50 watt Halogen Floods, drilled 2- 1/2" holes in the bottom of my rear hitch assy. and bolted them on there. I ran a wire to a switch in the cab. Now I can turn them on when needed. They give 100 times more light than the stock backups, PLUS I can turn them on when I need additional light for other things.

Total cost: About $50 and 2 hrs of time. (I work slow in the cold)

Some DA (who works here) wouldn't put an inspection sticker on my truck because of them... so I unplugged them , got the sticker, and plugged them right back up! :-{}

They are wired on a separate toggle switch, and separate fuse box.



Anyone here in VA can shed some LIGHT on the laws about this?

Only thing I can think of is the separate switch on the dash?



I'm in VA too and I've never had the inspector question me on them.

I have seen a couple of inspectors who "define" the rules as they see fit.

Navigator backup light

I've got the Navigator backup lights that you can find at Auto Zone (and probably some other parts stores). Pretty low profile and put out plenty of light. I just modified their mounting arrangement slightly.



They are supposed to strap over the receiver, but I just used their bracket and drilled a hole in the bumper and mounted them with a small bolt.

Junk the tin can stock bumper, buy a Reunell bumper and install two clear 4" round lights and wire them to the reverse lights-work great
