Installed a set of Northern Hydraulics "Mini Wide Beam" halogen lights on the back of the TRUCK today-tied them into the backup light switch with a relay, and ran another cab switch to discourage tailgaters/work lights. Work real nice-very bright and look good. Small enough they tuck up real well under the bumper, but are protected by the hitch. 55 Watt ea. , item number 18816-c150 for $8. 99/pair. No switches, relay, wiring etc.

DavesDodge-

What's the source for the lights? Where did you tap the backup light circut and what's the best way to tap into an existing circut? And finaly, do you have a picture of the install?

Thanks a lot.

DavesDodge,

Did you get the lights at Harbor Freight? That's where I got mine, but you have a little better price, $12/pair for mine. I used a Radio Shack relay and project box for mine. The relay went in the box with rubber grommets for the wires. I sealed the box with silicone to weather proof it and tapped the backup wire for a trigger at the back of the truck. They really work good.

Dave thanks for the tip on the lights!! We'll jump this over the wall to the products forum and let some other folks take a look!

Joe G. -I think the lights from Northern Hyd. are smaller than the Harbor Frt. lights-mine are 1. 75" x 5". You wired yours really well-I jumped thru more hoops to get the extra switch in the cab. Dave-wire yours similar to Joe G. 's if you don't want a separate switch--I ran a 14 ga. wire from the cab back to the lights and put a switch in parallel with the relay to be able to trigger them at will for worklights or tailgater discouragement! Tap into the backup light switch wires in the PDC-I don't know where that would be on your year truck. I cut and splice wire when tapping into a circuit-I am not fond of Scotchlocks...
Go to NorthernTools.com or call 1. 800. 533. 5545 to order them-these guys have lots of neat stuff-even carry RV stuff.

You got it on the splicing instead of other kinds of connectors! I solder all my connections. Just too much trouble with the other things. Get old and corrode or come apart. Hey, that sounds like me! #ad
