Is it possible for a dealer to save a copy of your current ECM configuration (backup your ecm data). I ask this for two reasons:

1: If there is a flash available does the dealer save a copy of the ECM before they perform the flash? I work on servers and obviously this is common practice when I work with any data. Do they follow the same precautions?

2: If they do backup the configuration does anyone know what they save it to, and would I as the owner of the truck have the right to a copy?

Every person I have ever heard talk about it, says that when they flash your computer they do not store the old info. That is one reason why some of the Ford guys have to take their superchips performance programs off before taking them into the dealer. If the dealer flashes the computer, they will lose their performance programming

no

the ecm is designed to only allow u to update to a newer program #

not go to an older one

the dealers dont have the option of having older programs available

the programs are loaded into their computer from a central system

cummins uses discs to flash the ecm

however they are not allowed to keep older discs on hand

they can only use the new ones

at least this is the stories I got because

Ive been there, tried to do that
