I have a 2011 3500 Laramie on order. I did not order the backup camera because I tow a 5W. What I wanted to do was order the backup camera cable and run it to the front of the bed to a camera to see the 5W when hooking up. Parts breakdown shows the cable. However when I tried to order the cable, I was told the only way to get the cable is to order the whole system, big bucks. I'm sure if the cable goes bad, there is a way to get the cable. Anyone have some inside scoop that might help ?

+1

I TOTALLY agree on this one. I did the same thing only with an AllGIG (same as as a MyGIG Lockpick) and it works fantastic for this. Just add your own camera and put it wherever works best.

With the LockPic you can even add a camera to the back of your trailer. I have a Lockpick coming for my new 2011, we'll see which one shows up first.

Check out the ~$80 wireless backup camera marketed by Peak, sold at Advance & Autozone. The camera wires into the backup lights (for in-bed use, maybe drop a wire from your bed light?), the monitor plugs into a lighter socket, and it's wireless from camera to monitor. If I didn't already have screens for a GPS and Sirius cluttering up my cabin, I'd have the camera. I'll sort out a way to clean up all those devices one day in my spare time...

I ordered a lockpick today. I ordered 2 cameras at the same time. Lockpick allows you to have up to 4. The best thing is that I'll actually be able to use the navigation while driving. The cameras are just a added bonus. I got the newest version with cameras for about 480. They had a cheaper version but it didn't have a few option that I wanted.

WMoroni, please keep us posted how that works, that is exactly what I would like to do to mine, I have looked at the lockpick, but hadn't pulled the trigger,

So far not good with the lockpick. I'm not sure what the problem is. The camera is great but I have to turn it on manually. I mounted it on my headache rack. Perfect picture of the gooseneck hitch and pretty nice wide rear view. The camera doesn't come on in reverse and it didn't unlock my navigation while driving. Their are supposed 2 bigger plugins on the back of the radio, a gray one and a white one. In the FAQ in the lockpick instructions if you're have the problems I'm having it says check the white plug. Guess what. My truck doesn't have the white plug at all. So far it looks like I bought a $439 backup camera with nothing extra. I have a call in to Coastal's costumer service but it was already closing time on the east coast so I had to leave a message. Should be awesome if I can get it figured out. Hope to find out more on Monday.

I just rc'd "Early Spring 2011" Camping World catalog. On pg 26 is a Wireless Camera #47686 on sale for $159. 99, check it out.

I wouldn't mind hooking it up to a toggle so I could view without reverse, I was thinking being able to see my load every now and then wouldn't be a bad deal, would like to run one back to the trailer headache rack too and flip back and forth.

Yep... that's exactly why I bought the ALLGiG, it's totally plug an play and USB update-able. Simply push the power button twice and the rear camera stays on. However, something doesn't sound right, I know of several successful installations of these lockpicks. If it turns out you ship in back. PM me and I'll send you the sales info on the ALLGiG.

So far still not good with the Lockpick. The camera works great. You have to double click the power button to make it come on. Wish it would come on by itself when you put it in reverse but it doesn't. I can watch a dvd when driving if I wanted. I can use a iphone with my steering wheel controls. The only problem is navigation is still locked out while driving. Tech support seems to be pretty good and coastal is concerned with it, very concerned seeing as they started shipping the newest one last week they they thought would work with the new RHB radio. They're supposed to get back with me tomorrow.

Sent the Lockpick back today. They think its a issue with my box so they are sending me another. I'll give them one more shot before I get an Allgig. The Lockpick has to many extra features not to try.

Any update? Did you get the LockPick working? And just so I'm clear, it's supposed to make the back up camera work on command, with up to 4 different cameras, enable the Nav/DVD while in drive, and provide outputs for other video displays? That's too cool!

I wonder if you have the same problem I had with the Lockpick in my 2010 with RER navigation radio. The Lockpick boxes are designed to work with the auto trans in the pickups. I have the manual trans and the Lockpick worked the way you described your is working. I updated to the version 2. 0 of the Lockpick software and then had to reset the Lockpick to work like the older version did. With the manual transmissions and possibly with the auto trans in the C&C trucks like yours (which is different than the auto trans in the pickups) the radio and the Lockpick do not have any input to the radio other than the reverse signal. With the software version 2. 0 in the Lockpick, and pushing and holding the Uconnect for seven seconds camera started working every time I shift into reverse, and when I press the power button twice I can use the address input on the navigation system while in motion.

I may have some answers tomorrow. Coastal just sent my new Lockpick last week. 34 days after I had sent the old one in. Any way it rained here so I'll have some time to hook it back up and try it tomorrow. Hoping for the best.
