My 2010 did not come with the backup camera... but I would like to add this...

I have found a few online, but my radio is a RBZ not a REN...

I am under the impression that the RBZ us the replacement for the REN and know that the backup camera is an option if I had ordered the truck with it.

Does anyone here have any info to help me get the backup cam installed on this radio?

Thanks!

Larry

I also found a really neat device called the Lockpick that adds a BUNCH of functionality that is turned off from the factory!

If the radio is equiped for the "parkview" camera system you can purchase and install the camera yourself. But to activate it through the radio I was told that the dealer has to do that through programming software. Here is the complete system right from Mopar.

Dodge Ram Back Up Camera

Yes. . that is the camera... . but if you note it say's for the REN & RER radios...

Mine is the RBZ that is new for 2010 and replaced the REN.

I'm trying to get confirmation that everything remained the same as the part numbers have now changed.

Things need to catch up to what Dodge is putting into the new trucks...

By the way... the radio code is located on the bottom right of the fadio face...

very small white print.

I have the backup camera with my RER radio, and its pretty damn sweet. Has saved my azz (literally) a few times...

If you have the touch screen on a 2010 you should be good to go. My truck did not have the camera from the factory but it is a laramie so it came with the 430 touch screen. I had the dealer install it before picking it up. Its clean, works great and is under warantee.

hammersley,

Where the heck would you mount all that stuff? It sounds good in theory to give your truck a prison yard video system but seriously that is a lot of stuff to be mounting in and on a Ram.

Ram OEM Backup Camera Installed...

I did the Install of the Dodge factory Backup camera on my new 2010 2500.

Let me take a few moments to try and clear up a few things with this kit.

The factory part number of this kit is 82211184. and all of the instructions say it is for the REN and RER radios ONLY... This is misleading, and is a result of the new 2010's being released AFTER the kits were put together.

This kit will also work with the new RBZ radios that now come in 2010s.

The RBZ is the replacement for the REN and made by a different subcontractor than the older MyGig radios.

Rest assured the factory backup camera WILL work with the RBZ radio.

Now, as far as the instructions that come with the camera kit, you will need to disregard the parts about the interior of the truck... they have you removing parts that simply are not there on the 2010 HD rams.

To get the center console open to access the radio, you need only remove 3 screws.

On the top of the console there is a little tray with the word RAM on it, using a plastic flat, lift up the rubber "Mat" to reveal 2 torx screws. Remove them.

Now using 2 plastic spatulas gently pry the trim around the 115V AC outlet.

This is held in place with 3 locking tabs, 2 on top, one on the bottom.

This proved tricky to do without marring the plastic, but if you can get one plastic spatula under the trim at the top, you can use the other to find the 2 locking tabs, and using gentle down pressure release the tabs.

The trim plate will come off to reveal the third torx screw to remove.

Use the two spatulas and pry between the center console trim (near the driver side AC vent and the dash) there are @10-12 locking tabs all the way around, the face will pull straight off. .

You can remove the wiring on the faceplate (as mentioned in the instructions), or if you are careful not to exert too much force, just prop it up enough to release the strain on the wires.

The radio is held in with 4 hex screws, removing them lets the radio come right out.

I suggest unplugging the wires from the radio and putting the radio aside.

You will also need to remove the cover under the steering wheel (where the OBD port is located); Two Phillip screws hold that on.

Again the instructions say to remove the Hood release and the OBD port, but you can move it easily out of the way without putting any strain on the wires / cable.

Follow the instructions as is to install the new tailgate handle, and running the wires up to the engine compartment, and into the cabin.

I found this the hardest part to accomplish, though I did want to follow the existing wiring to the tailgate to keep everything out of the way for off-road use.

Follow the instructions and if you are confident in what you have done, button things up as you proceed to the engine compartment.

Do all the wiring in the Power distribution box and you will need to solder into the backup light power line.

Now we again find where we need to deviate from the instructions, connecting to the radio.

With the camera kit, they supply a wiring block that they say connects to plug "C3"... well on the RBZ there is only "A" and "B".

Follow the wiring diagram (making note that the supplied picture they give you is of the wiring pins is UPSIDE DOWN!)

Look inside the harness plug on the radio marked "B"... and you will see where pin 1 is!!!!

You will put the wires unto cavities 3(GY-LB) 4(GY-ORA), 5(Shield) then plug the newly made harness plug into port "B" of the radio!!

Of all places where you can go wrong, this is the hardest... . Take your time... make note of exactly where Pin 1 on the radio is and you should be fine.

If you put one if the wires in the wrong cavity, it can easily be removed by opening up the harness plug.

The white plastic harness plug has a locking tab that is removed by simply lifting it up and out of the plug. Wires can then be pulled back out of their cavity.

Re install the radio, close up the console, and the cover under the steering wheel, and make an appointment with your dealer to have them activate the camera!

Total install took me just over 4 hours, but then again I was flopping around under my truck running the wires for 1-1. 5 hours of that time to make sure nothing would rip at the wire while going over brush.

My dealer charged me 85. 00 to turn on the camera, and the kit cost me 270. 00.

The Mechanic drove my truck back over to me in 15 Minutes and said the camera turned right on after the flash.

I tested it today and backed up to my boat trailer.

This process is usually very painful when my lovely bride is trying to guide me into position.

With the camera, I was able to maneuver the hitch ball directly under the hitch first try without any one back there guiding me!

IMHO... This upgrade was WELL WORTH IT... . and My Wife LOVES not having to put up with my attitude when it takes us 5 tries to get the trailer connected!

Hope this helps!!
