After hitting a deer on friday night, on my way back from Odessa on Saturday I heard a funny grinding/roaring noise when I let off the gas and a lot of vibration in the gear shifter. I truck is idleing slightly rough also.

If it is the flywheel going south, what is the best solution besides Mopar?

I'd say get a new South Bend clutch with new flywheel and do away with that Dual mass flywheel... . You'll be much happier and so will your truck

Well the truck drove fine form Bandera all the way to Odessa and almost to the house, some 700+ miles before this other problem developed. Highway speeds out on I10 w/ speeds of 80+ mph showed no sign of any problems.

And yes the deer went under the truck to the right side mostly, at least thats where most of the blood and guts are.

Took the truck out and at highway speed when you let off the gas it sounds like I got monster mud tires on the truck. when I push the clutch in it gets worse. Driving a city speeds (25-45 mph) it sounds normal. It also is shuddering when I come to a stop. It did not do this after I hit the deer, only after I got back downn to the house some 700+ miles later.

any ideas?

DMF Vibration

jnelson,

The G56 uses a DMF that can go out of balance with normal service.

Test, select neutral, set parking brake, increase engine RPM, if truck starts vibrating without the rest of the driveline involved, DMF is a good suspect. The secondary flywheel is piloted on the primary with a bushing that is subject to wear, when it gets loose, the entire secondary with clutch assy is now orbiting rather than concentric on the crank. If this does not corfirm the vibration, look elsewhere. A fellow TDR member sent us a failed DMF, the secondary F/W actually moves (up/down) on the primary assy due to the bushing wear.

We will have our solid conversion later this summer.

U-Joints?

Recently my truck was doing a similar thing. When I would get off the throttle, and espesially when I would roll to a stop, the truck would shudder and sound like a set of knobbies on the street. It turned out to be the u-joint at the rear axle.

moonranch- thanks for the reply.

I took the truck to a really good transmission shop here in town. the owners son first reaction was a u-joint. we'll see. I'll let you know.
