2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Bad Backup light switch

Hello everyone. Just returned from having Pullrite 5th wheel installed on my truck. When done, the installer advised me that my backup light switch in the trans(6 spd. ) was bad. He said he jumped the wiring to allow the backup lights on the RV to work.

Can any of you knowledgeable people tell me about how much that would cost to have fixed? I'm sure the state of Pennsylvania would appreciate me having backup lights when I bring the truck to be inspected!!

Were the lights on the RV wired through the 7-pin connector and switched on when you shifted into reverse? If so, your backup light switch (P/N 56007270 at about $54 list) is okay.

Thought he said he jumped it. Right after they received the truck they called to ask if I knew I didn't have backup lights. Only have the truck a couple weeks and only drove during the day so never noticed. Told them to do whatever to get them working. When I picked up today he just said the transmission switch was bad and needed to be replaced.

Was so absorbed and stressed at the financial part of the RV purchase and hooking up and driving a 5th wheel for the first time, that I didn't question him further. Figured whatever the problem was I'd get it checked out when I get my ordered DSS installed.

Thanks for the info on the part. Is this something that screws into the side of the trans, or the trans has to be opened up to install. In other words, is this something a semi-capable person can do, or leave it to professionals?

Mine was bad when I got it back from the dealer after they fixed the shift fork. I was leaving on vacation the next day and they did not have on in stock so i went to the local pars store and got one from them. $15. 00 and 5 minutes and off we go!

Don't know how they could get the backup lights working on the RV if the switch is bad.

I'd be more concerned about what kind of haywiring the RV guys did more than the simple inexpensive replacement of the switch.
