"And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go"

I was working on the Kittanning By-pass expressway in Pa. We opened it up, and a few days later, Pa's finest is running radar where the new road goes into the old. 55 zone, I was at 61.

I think jerk, nailing people on the new road.

This week, the same cop was nailing an aluminum thief right on the highway. Liberating a LARGE sign we were replacing. Cutting into the bosses beer money, know what I mean?

I wheeled the N-14 Cummins boom truck in behind the cop, waiting for him to move.

He says,"I should sit here and run radar, you hide me completly. "

I said," That is kind of mean. "(Meaning &%$&%$)

He said, "Yea, I'm a bad guy, I nailed 18 people the other night (the one I saw)all 75 and over, 2 over 85 in a 55 zone. "

Well.

I stand corrected, he was letting us 65ers and down go, just getting the gross speeders.

Hard to complain about that.

Where was he when two tri-axle propane trucks BLEW past us, IN THE CONSTRUCTION ZONE and at least 85 mph. ??? Oh well.

BTW, the aluminum thief? Says he was "told" that if a sign was down, why, anyone could take it!!!!!!!!

Guess who also had two other warrants out for his arrest?

Law enforcement always sends mixed messages.

But, it sounds pretty average to me. I've seen people get nailed for 6 MPH on a stretch of road where I was let go after getting nailed for 53 in a 35 - probably because it was a warm, sunny, calm day in late January on a weekend - oh, and I was polite.

If I were you, I'd just keep an eye on the guy, and if he's terribly inconsistent, complain to his supervisor. His boss, the prosecutorial team, and the judge just HATE having to deal with inconsistent enforcement. Not that they generally care all that much, they just hate having to deal with it.

I would just tell him, if he ever tried to use you as a place to hide for a radar trap, that you believe he is causing a safety issue for himself, you, and anyone with you. If he doesn't believe you, make sure you drop some object on his hood accidently that'll make a small dent - if he's that close. He'll then try to cite you for something and you get to tell an interesting tale in court he'd rather not have told. Tell him that his "rapid getaway in pursuit" is dangerous to you and if he won't move, then complain to his chief. He'll move :)
