What about the officers that lift weights? Those guys hardly have any fat, but weigh more than the charts say they are supposed to. Would be kind of dumb if they get no bonus either.

BAD COP NO DONUT:D

I've seen that bumper sticker a few times, mostly on vehicles I tend to issue to rather than give a warning though :p .

It's a problem, no doubt. I can honestly say that I have seen a trend in the past ten years or so. Most of the officers coming on the job now work out regulary and dispise the way the overweight officers appear.

We are a small PD of about 30 sworn members at any given time. Out of the 30, 23 are assigned to uniformed patrol and 3 are detectives. All of our detectives keep themselves very fit. Out of the 23 uniformed Officers, only one has the appearance of the cops in thos pics. , the rest of us actually care about our health and appearance. Hopefully this trend will continue.

You will notice that I left out the 4 that are in desk duty positions ( Chief, Patrol Lt. , Admin Lt. and Admin Sgt. ). Out of these, 2 are fit and 2 would put those pics. to shame and make those overweight cops look like twiggy, you guess which 2  .

NEGATIVE, unless I'm giving one of those 4 listed a ride :D . I am very happy to say that I wear the same size uniform trouser that I did 15+ years ago, when I started :) .

Physical Shape-Good and Bad

The CHP started paying a bonus for getting in decent shape about 1988. You were tested quarterly with Heart, B/P monitors, etc while pumping a stationary bicycle and performing agility tests. Most guys passed with no problem. The load on the bike was determined by % of body fat, not some arbitrary weight determined by some Jane Fonda type. Nothing can really prepare you from Cruising around for hours, Crushing Crime and then instantly going flat out for 1 or 2 minutes. Backs go out, muscles get pulled and heart attacks occur. It is just part of the job. Better physical condition is just good sense.

Figures it would be Florida. I am suprised the people down there can even read a scale. Seems this would be harder than voting, and we know the problems they have with that... .
