Good movie

I can't believe Ford would do this to a website that promotes THEIR products. But, the www.ford-diesel.com webiste was ordered to stop using FORD anywhere on thier website. That includes the name of the site itself

Is Ford shooting themselves in the foot for doing something like this to a site that praises and promotes their trucks? I mean there are over 23000 registered users on that site and most of them are VERY unhappy about the whole deal. I would imagine that some would even re-consider buying a new Ford over the matter.

I guess Robert was forward thinking when he decided to name his magazine and website the Turbo Diesel Register instead of something that used the Dodge or Cummins name. Good thinking Robert.

Just for the record, the new webiste will be www.diesel-pickup.com. It should be active in a few days.

Talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face. Is the guy with the site profiting from the "Ford" name? Yes but I bet not near as much as Ford is from him using it. I mean hell, the guy is giving Ford tons of advertising and promotion... ABSOLUTLY FREE. I really think there is no one left in these large companies with any common sense. Bet the same guy who thought this would be a good idea thought it would be a good idea to donate a bunch of money to environmental groups that work to put blue collar workers out of a job.

GOOD MOVE FORD

One more reason I'm glad I have a dodge. Hell, even better I bought my Dodge used so DC didn't profit from it either, all the better.

Note: CEO's of Ford and DC, I am available for common sense consulting work for you for a "reasonable" fee

Kind of related

I was sitting on the couch watching TV today and caught the last of a special on the History channel about Henry Ford.

Did you know Mr. Ford hated the Jews. :( He blamed them for WW1 said it was started by the Jewish bankers and major company heads to make more money. He also hated Jazz music and the way the US was growing in the 20's. He didn't even want to make a new model of car but his sons talked him into it.

Maybe bad ideas just run in the family.

that sucks for them ford boys. . their site is pretty good if you can be non bias for a few minutes. . and do they ever get a lot of traffic over there. a thread that is on top, could be on the 2nd or 3rd page at the end of the day. it's fords loss for denying the use of the ford name. if you read through the posts on the 99-up superduty under the general questions area, there are many there that are disatasfied with their blue oval vehicles. . it doesn't look too great at the moment for that site. . but i do hope it continues on. .

It's possible that people thought that Ford actually ran the site. I can see where that can cause problems. I don't see how they can prevent the members from using the word Ford in their posts any more than Dodge could do that here.

From a promotions view

I can't think of anyone else out there promoting Ford enthusiast's more. That site is a service to Ford to help generate excitement about their super duty trucks. What a shame, I hope they (Ford) haven't put all their cookies in the PowerStroke Register's jar.

My opinion is that Jason Lester does more for them than the "I'm not into events" Bill at PSR.

I was going to buy a PSD until I ran across the TDR.

I've bought two CTDs and now my son is looking to buy one. He made an offer yersterday on a 94 CTD that has 50,200 original miles, factory stock, and clean as they come. Seemed a little low on power compared to my 2002, but I think with a little work we can fix some of that.

This doesn't sit well with me. I've always liked Fords. I've owned many. It's a long story why I'm in a Cummins now, most of you know it, you've either heard it from me, read it in my writings here, or can guess at it, because you feel the same way. A very BAD local dealership, two, in fact, that couldn't fix my Ford Ranger. It was a simple fuel injection problem.

VERY, VERY bad PR move on Ford's part. But not nearly as bad as the liberal gun-grabbing political crap being supported quite vigorously by the current Ford family member at the top.

The Powerstrokes are good trucks, their owners are good people and love diesels like we do. I've wanted one, on several occasions, as a second vehicle, even as a shop truck, but still haven't gotten around to buying one.

Bad decision, Ford, you're doing even more to drive me away.

I'm hoping this is just a bad joke, but if it isn't, it would be as good a reason as any for all of those Ford boys to buy Dodges next year. That would wake up the those Dorfs at Ford.

What's Ford-Diesel.com going to do now? Change their name to 4x4riverfording.com?

Ford can't own the rights to a common word.

I always thought of the F**d as more of an boat anchor not a Tugboat. :-laf

It's really nothing personal with Ford. If they don't preserve their trademark against a commercial website, they may lose the ability to contest future infringements.

The fact that you can buy stickers that say Ford on them is the basis by which they can make their case. A not for profit site would, most likely, be allowed. In the Jeeping community, there was a site that collected and displayed pictures of women, sometimes nude, on different Jeep models. DC stepped in and made them shut down on the basis of trademark infringement. (And not wanting to be associated with 'porn') They also sold merchandise, but I'm unclear as to what it was.
