If you put a fuel pressure gauge on it, you can see whether it is bad. Basically, if you have sufficient pressure, it is fine but if you don't, then you have a problem. If you don't want a permanently mounted gauge, you can plumb one in yourself for fairly cheap or buy one of the cheap pre-made kits.
 
If you are talking about the lift pump and not the injection pump, it is probably ok. They seldom fail. It's probably an air leak somewhere. Email me at -- email address removed -- for my 12 valve fuel system writeup, how it works and how to fix it.

Pumps on 94s seem to go out by 100K. Had mine done at about 90K. With 250K I would think it woulds be on the 2nd. Make sure you clean the filter screen under the truck in the line. If you do you will see black particals that would be from the pump seals.
