Took the truck to the dealer Wednesday and had some warranty work done. Replaced vaccum pump, new rear end pinion seal and vent breather, and the new front half of the t-case that they have been trying to get to stop leaking for about 7 months. They put it all back together and there is a bad howling vibration when you decelerate. Truck has a 6 speed 43000 miles and now they have created something that is very bad. It didn't howl before I took it in there. Thought they forgot to refill eith oil, but it is ok. They don't know what the problem is. supposed to have a manual transmission tech back to work around middle of week and want to bring back in an check it out. These guys are having all sorts of hell fixing my pickup. Then when I was in picking it up I saw one of the techs rodding my baby. After I came untrained on the manager of the service dept. I was ready to kill someone . I wonder if any of you guys have an idea of why it would wine line that when you decelerate. does it in all gears.

Thanks

Did they tighten up the pinion nut? It sounds like a pinion problem. Grab the pinion yolk and try to move it up and down and in and out. Set the parking brake secure the wheels and put the trans in neutral before checking. Not sure if a Dana 80 has a crush sleeve but if it does and they overtightened the pinion nut, it will screw up the pinion depth. That will cause a vibration on deceleration.

Thanks,

I will check that. They immediately put the pickup on the hoist and went to checking for the noise. With their stethascope they were listening where the transmission and t-case bolt together and thinking a bearing in the transmission. they think the new transfer case is true and the transmission already had a bad bearing but now when running with the new transfer case you can hear it?

still don't know if they know what they are doing. But I will check the pinion nut.

Thanks a bunch

Maybe you should look for another dealer, I'm sure you didn't pay moocho $ for some mech to rod it for you, thats YOUR job.

I'd been  Hope you get it all figured out , keep us posted on the progress or fix.

Fixed?

Got it back and the noise is gone . have to find the manager on monday and see if they know what was wrong. hell who knows maybe they filled it with grease or something snaky like that.

Thanks for the input.
