Injector help for Detroit Diesel

Well, today I was coming up a steep hill here in Pgh and blowed a turbo boost boot on the ol MACK, WOW :--) man I just about came to a dead stop in the middle of the hill and single handedly smoked out the entire road. :--) :-laf I got the boost boot back on but the clamp did not want to tighten up and hold the boot. I made it back to the yard and got the parts I need to fix it, and one thing lead to another. I got the new boot on and in the process of that I had to remove another boost clamp and broke that, had to go get 2 more new boot clamps and another hose because it was dry rotting. Then the power steering line decided to go bad, so now I have to replace that in the morning because as to where it is mounted and routed I cannot do it while the engine is hot. All in all I guess its not to bad because I got 11,009 hours and 349,785 on the engine. Its a persistent engine on the road,:p not the fastest but it will pull like hell, I only have to drop 1 gear in most cases.

Well, I guess it was a delayed Monday for me with all the little petty things that went wrong today.

We had the same boot problem on the '90 CH. The pyro normally moves pretty slow being post-turbo, but when that boot blows off, Holy ****! EGTs went to 1200* post almost instantaneously. I had to drop to 3rd gear so I could get to the top of the hill to stop, while getting the EGTs to a safe spot.

Haven't had to replace a power steering line yet, since we've owned it. :) Almost done with installing the rebuilt power divider though. Was waiting on a couple of other parts. Should be done tomorrow.

My fire Dept. has a 73 MACK Tanker. I was pullin up a hill and lost the upper Boot. Makes a hell of a racket but was able to drive it to the fire. Afterward I was able to put the boot back on and run it home.

When it happens all you think is "aw sh**"

My, funny story Mike! I've been fighting a boost boot on my truck, I got the HD ones from Piers and they're hard to put on and seat properly 'cause they're nice and stiff. I had quite a leak yesterday and at 12psi the thing made a super loud farty whistle
